The St. Croix Valley Bird Club is sponsoring speaker Joanna Eckles on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Roberts Public Library, 311 West Warren St.

I’d attend, but I’m afraid I’d be shunned. I like starlings. Smart, beautiful birds. I have one as a pet that I raised from 3 days old. He’s 14 years old now. Such a beautiful song.

The American Bird Conservancy estimates that up to 500 million birds are killed each year by cats. Wind generators are helping us to become energy independent and only kill a few birds. What are cats doing for us?
