Obama launches push for immigration overhaul
January 29, 2013 at 12:52 am in The Daily Republic
WASHINGTON (AP) Seeking swift action on immigration, President Barack Obama on Tuesday will try to rally public support behind his proposals for giving millions of illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship, as well as making improvements to the legal immigration system and border security.

Legally, amnesty focuses on a group of people and grants them a permanent pardon. The Obama administration’s policy could reasonably be said to focus on a group, but deferring deportation is not the same as forgiveness and the relief it offers is limited in time.

Rush Limbaugh is RIGHT when he said on his show that it was up to himself and the Fox News network to stop a bipartisan effort to pass immigration reform! We TeaPublicans are counting on Rush and FoxNews to lead the fight in stopping these kind of people from taking over our America! We realize that amnesty will add trillions of dollars to the debt over time, will increase the use of Medicare and Social Security, and those people will totally abuse our public assistance programs! I want my taxes to go to Americans! We don’t need these people here to make our beds, mow our lawns or make coffee. The Heritage Foundation calculates that each poor family of 4 illegal aliens will drain $1.4 million more over a lifetime in benefits than it ever pays in any form of taxes! With all these kinds of people coming here can you now see why we Americans will not give up our guns? Don’t you see that we are voluntarily being displaced in a country we built from scratch! Thank God we TeaPublicans have Rush Limbaugh and Fox News on our side in the battle to save America as we know it!

“these kind of people”?? You sound like Ann Romney. With this attitude, nobody would be currently living in the upper midwest with most coming as immigrants. Or were those immigrants the “right” kind of people?

TeaPublican, the average US citizen currently receives over $250,000 in Medicare benefits more than they pay in. That alone means the average family of four citizens receives over a million dollars in just Medicare benefits than they paid in; note that is an average family of citizens, not a poor family. Your 1.4 million dollar number attributed to a poor family of illegal aliens is significantly less than the amount being paid for a poor family of four citizens.
Immigrants, both legal and illegal, have had significant positive impacts on this country that far outweigh the perceived additional burden. If you are concerned about the contributions immigrants are making to the tax base the solution is to include them in the tax system, not to exclude them.

This reminds me of a song…..sung to the tune of “Friends in Low Places”
The chorus:
Cause I like friends with white faces
And a burning cross that you know
Chases those Jews away
Then we call it a day
Oh we’re mighty big on the master races
We slip on sheets and pillow cases
Oh I like friends with white faces

TeaPublican, I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry based on your comments. It reads like a well-written Colbert Report parody. If that’s your intent, then well done! It highlights everything that is abhorent about bigotry and racism in this country.
However, if you are in any way serious, I can only say that I feel very sorry for you. Your attitudes are totally wrong-headed and represent the very worst of America.

I really gotta go with Gail on this one, at least as far as the outrageous comment by TeaPublican. Neither he/she or Rush Limbaugh speak for me or most of the conservatives I know.
We need to secure our borders and then all immigrants need a reasonable and legal pathway to citizenship and they need to be helped along that path. No free rides. Any entitlements/benefits should come to those who successfully navigate that path. We need strict guidelines to weed out the criminals and freeloaders, but to say that all immigrants are in that category is simply wrong. Most of us know that.
To be honest, I haven’t heard anything regarding the current Obama plan for immigration reform that I disagree with. At least not yet. My only objection would be if it gets pushed through so fast that no one even has a chance to read between the lines. The devil is always in the details which no one ever reads, reports or even understands if they do. That happened with Obamacare and it happens far too often to suit me.
I do however remain mostly cynical and justifiably I think. Time will tell.

I stand by what I wrote. Actually, I’m guessing the TeaPublican comment was written by a left leaning individual incognito. The comment was written in the most repugnant manner possible, as a way to discredit the right. A mere poser seeking to gather strength here on this forum that indeed social conservatives are hateful and racist. Argument by satire or gross caricature.
That’s why, as Gail notes, the post appears almost satirical in style like some Hollywood, hillbilly redneck (cue up dueling banjos). This happens more than we know. The media does it all the time. Find a sound bite with a crazy christian, play it enough times, and get everyone thinking they all sound like that. Cover a rally, show the one incident of violence but none of the good folks. Paint the pictures but leave out most of the colors. It’s the manipulation talked about in another section here. TeaPublican is a con and has been debunked.

Well, like I said, I was with you 100% on your last post but I think you might be stretching it a bit much on the last one.
I hope you are right that it is someone just looking for a reaction, because that kind of thinking is…….well, it’s not good.

The democrats mouths are moving so I know they’re lying. Border security, it’s not going to happen. What the democrats are looking for is more little birds with their mouths open waiting to be fed by the nanny state, and that will vote to perpetuate the handouts and democrat party.

The United States has been and always should be the land of opportunity. New immigrants collectively place no greater long-term burden on resources than existing citizens. If the concern is about financial resources being inappropriately applied the solution is implementing welfare reform in a manner that was successfully achieved during the Clinton Administration in tandem with a Republican Congress. Those reforms have been significantly eroded by executive order over the past decade. Over one-third of households in the United States are now receiving means tested benefits and forty-nine percent of households are receiving some form of transfer benefits; that not just new immigrants. New immigrants have been and are still a vital component of a prosperous and healthy United States. The animosity directed toward new immigrants is avoiding the larger and more significant issue of welfare reform. This country has an obligation to feed the hungry and protect those in need, but our social safety net has morphed into a system that promotes dependence and discourages self-sufficiency. New immigrants are not the problem.
