North Dakota law requires patients hear fetus before getting an abortion
January 21, 2013 at 2:47 am in DL-Online
FARGO Women seeking an abortion in the state of North Dakota must first hear specific, state-mandated language and are required to get a chance to see, and in some cases hear, their fetus before the procedure is performed. Continue Reading

Freakin nuts! My body, my choice. A bunch of people who don’t know me and don’t know my situation trying to control my life. To easy to sit in a chair and set up roadblocks about something they should have no say about.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Right on. ND legislators are a bunch of retrograde, conservative white men who want their women to do as they are told. The only thing this will accomplish is to show the legislature as it is: a radical right-wing fringe group who insist on passing legislation that will cost the state money to defend in court and that will be ultimately found to be unconstitutional.

There are a number of ND laws on the books which the SCOTUS would likely find unconstitutional. People just don’t have the inclination to press the matter.

what a bunch of mor-ons those state legislatures are! They obviously have no clue they will be out next election if not reversed.

But they are for individual rights and no government interference. They scream regulations are bad. Well for corporate America but not the women of America. The RWNs really do like to pick and choose even when their choices contradict themselves.

I guess they are offering information some may not otherwise be aware of. In the end the decision is still their’s to make. Would I choose this route? HELL no. But I won’t judge someone who does.

This was essentially an effort on the part of legislators to mollify and earn brownie points from pro-life constituents, seeing nothing substantial could ever be accomplished.

The unborn baby is a seperate entity from it’s mother. Can it survive in the early stages on it’s own, no. There is ample evidence of babies being born prematurely in the vicinity of one pound of weight and surviving normally. I have a niece that weighed 1pound 2 ounces at birth and today is a happy healthy 5 year old.

Nemain – Sorry honey, it’s not your choice. It’s strictly up to God who gave you the child whether your child lives or dies. To say otherwise is to pretend your God himself.

So is that God playing around with eggs and sperm in fertility clinics and throwing away the unneeded embryos? Must be God’s will if it’s happening, right? You could make the same case for abortion; if God’s letting it happen it must be his will.

Dear John-I do have the ultimate solution for you. No more recreational sex. You can only have sex if you want to reproduce. That way, no more abortions, no more birth control, which in some people’s line of warped thinking is another form of abortion. Problem solved. All babies born will be wanted, cherished, loved and not abused physically, sexually, emotionally or killed by their parents. There ya go.

More hypocrisy and (not so) thinly veiled pandering from Jurasic Park…aka the ND Legislature. It really would make for a solid reality show/sitcom. Every session seems to get increasingly more bizarre.

Every session witnesses some bonehead bill which makes you wonder how people got elected. A recent one is mandating people wishing to divorce go through 5 1-hour counseling sessions, at their own cost of course. One of my favorite in the list politicians who are brain dead was the guy who authored a bill eliminating the “North” from North Dakota.

It’s been 40 years since women had no choice but to have back alley abortions that killed a huge number of women. Some think that abortion started with Roe Vs. Wade, but complications of botched abortions were a major cause of the death of women of childbearing age during the first part of the 20th Century. Abortions will happen one way or another. If it is not legal, then woman and fetuses will die. At least with a medical abortion, women do not have to bleed to death in some back room in an illegal abortion mill. These days with increased knowledge of contraception, abortion should be rare, but available. If it is not legal, women will be at risk because they will seek out abortion regardless. Either way the fetus dies. Expecting all women to carry a pregnancy to term if abortion is made illegal has been shown to be unrealist at best. It will never happen. Agitators who want to turn back the clock and made abortions illegal my not like what they get if that happens. More dead women and their fetuses. This decision should be nobody’s business but the persons involved. Everybody else can choose not to have an abortion themselves and then go mind their own busness.

Ya got the republicans that think, listen, then you have the ones that have their heads so far up their sphincter because they don’t want to listen, only do their own way.

Thank you for admitting that republicans think and listen. You obviously are speaking of the far left in describing the ones that only “do their own way”.

It’s incredulous that the same people who advocate for individual freedom and liberty are the same people who would force others to live according to their belief system only.
I’m all for the freedom of people to gather and worship as they see fit. But it seems more and more they’ve become a religious mafia, intent on forcing all people to live by their standards.

What is the problem with allowing women to see all of the different “choices” they have and to make a completely informed decision?

What’s that supposed to mean? Women should not have to be submissive to religious terrorism when it comes to making decisions regarding their own body.

What is religious about utilizing the awesome medical advances that have been made so that we can see a baby and his or her heartbeat in utero? Also, presenting the option to choose adoption is not “religious.” If chosen, this choice literally saves the baby from being dismembered and killed. Sounds worthy of consideration to me.

Whether it’s religious or not isn’t the point. This is a clumsy attempt to place an obstacle in the way of women who wish to have an abortion. You turn down the mandate you surrender your right. This would never survive a court challenge.

Wouldn’t you want to know what choices you had in other “healthcare” situations? Why does it scare you so much for a mother to see her baby and hear his or her heartbeat?

When it gets to that point, the woman has already made her decision. This is just an attempt to delay it. I recall a law struck down somewhere that forced women to look at pictures of an aborted fetus simply to delay the inevtable. Whether you agree or not with Roe v. Wade doesn’t matter, it’s the law of the land. Overt ways of trying to circumvent it don’t stand a chance in court.

Here’s the thing, if you can’t take responsibility of what comes out from having sex, THEN CLOSE YOUR LEGS!!! Be responsible and use condoms or birth control. Are there certain reasons for people to have abortions? Yes. And being too stupid to use birth control is NOT a reason. Being a slut is NOT a reason. Saying you have too many kids is not a reason. This is the problem with society, we glorify sex in every way possible. And people wonder why kids are getting pregnant at early ages, not just late teens.

Well, Jeff, that would begin with comprehensive sex education in our schools, along with readily available contraceptives with no questions asked. Do you agree?

I agree with having sex ed back in school. But the problem schools don’t want to spend money on that class when they don’t even have money to use for normal classes.
But like I said being a slut and stupid does not make it right to have abortions. Close your legs or use birth control. Here is the best thing, use COMMON SENSE!

You do realize that the same people who would deny a woman’s right to choose are the same people who advocate cutting education budgets to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy, right? So, if the issue is a lack of funding, how should that be solved?
By the way, your use of the word slut is uncalled for, and indicative of your own willful ignorance of this issue. You need to educate yourself.

Rebel-I agree 100 percent with your last posting. I still remember the first time I went in to get birth control and I have to tell you, it was not a good experience. And Jeff using the word slut is completely uncalled for. And what do you call a man who thinks only of his own gratification and doesn’t think using birth control is his responsibility?
