Gladstone park board rift goes to Stark County Commission

Dueling Gladstone city park boards one recognized by the city and the other one not had their fight taken to the Stark County Commission on Tuesday, where the city’s mayor requested Stark County state’s attorney action to begin a criminal investigation into the so-called “unofficial” board. There is a lot of crazy stuff going on with this whole Gladstone thing. First off, there is the question of whether the board members who were suppose to be notified they were elected were indeed notified. If so, then they did not respond in time and the city or the board may (not sure on which one) have the right to appoint someone. If they did not, then the city is in big trouble.
Secondly, I’m not really sure if the city had the right to make its own board. My understanding is that most park boards are separate entities from city governments and the city does not have authority over them. They can partner on certain things, but I’m not sure how much power the city has over the board. One would have to look at the city’s century code and ordinances if they have an accessible copy, which they better have.
Yes, the park board may be in trouble for not alerting the Press and the city of having meetings as stated in previous articles, but that is also debatable to a certain extent.
And I wonder if the Stark County Commission is the proper forum to discuss this. The county is its own entity and doesn’t have power over making decisions for a city. The state does if it is a criminal matter, but I doubt the county can do anything.
Honestly, this whole thing has turned into one big mess with a bunch a grown people arguing like child. I hope this gets solved in a civilized manner for the sake of the people in the RV Park. For now, it just seems like we are going to see a bunch of toddlers pointing fingers until daddy (Gov. Dalrymple, Attorney General Stenehjem or the Supreme Court) gives them both a spanking.
