In three weeks since deadly Connecticut school shooting,
local gun dealers can’t keep assault-style weapons on shelves
WORTHINGTON Pawn It in Worthington has a waiting list of people wanting to purchase a black gun the AR-15 and others like it that are capable of firing in quick succession. Continue Reading

“People who want gun control wish every gun was gone — even shotguns,”
Wrong.
People who want gun control want tighter gun laws, not gun bans.

“People who want gun control want tighter gun laws, not gun bans”—–
WRONG
The only people this affects are the good LAW ABIDING citizens, but the criminals will still get whatever guns they want!
naughtydog, what is your definition of “tighter gun laws” that you think will keep the crazies from killing, robbing, & raping?

Barb,
I agree, something needs to be done but not new, tighter gun laws. That is a knee jerk reaction to a tragedy that could have been carried out with a bomb, knife, poison, ect.
I’ll start with a couple of common sense somethings:
1. Actually enforce the laws/penalties that we now have. There is no fear of consequences because they are far and few between…..most thugs who are arrested with a gun have had NUMEROUS prior arrests/convictions and they are out doing it again.
2. Stop being so politically correct and passing the buck when it comes to the mentally ill who are exhibiting dangerous “red flags”.
3. Put a well armed, trained, professional at the front door of EVERY school in this country. If it’s good enough for politicians, banks, jewlery stores, it should be good enough for our kids!
4. Realize that there are evil people that do evil things everyday in this country….taking guns from law abiding citizens will not change this fact.

Pat, I have a couple questions about your proposals.
Regarding Point:
1. How high of a tax rate are you willing to pay to keep people incarcerated longer? Locking somebody up at 30k-50k per year is an expensive proposition if we’re going to keep them jailed longer. I know I’m not willing to pay for this.
2. What constitutes a “red flag?” I have to assess dangerousness in mentally ill people daily and there is no standardized, empirical way to predict who is at risk to murder someone, outside of them telling us they are. There are psychological batteries that one can administer to predict likelihood to re-offend for those already incarcerated, but these are expensive and there are a shortage of qualified professionals to administer them. Furthermore, if we decide to make a somewhat arbitrary threshold for when someone’s gun rights should be removed, how should this be administered. Should we violate privacy by publishing it even though the majority of those listed would likely never commit the act? Additionally, the majority of gun homicides are not committed by someone with a diagnosed psychotic illness or even a diagnosed mood disorder. The point is, it’s not as simple as “not being so politically correct.”
3. Again, at what cost? What are you willing to pay in a personal tax rate to ensure this? I’m not sure I’m willing to pay.
4. Is everybody that does wrong evil? Really not worth arguing this point, I’ll let you have it.

“Another school shooting in California today, better stock up on more ammo!!”— VERY good idea merc. Never know when the DHS will decide to start using the 450 million hollow point bullets they bought! (for what we don’t know) Wonder how long it will be before the leftist goons turn the shotgun used into an “assault weapon?”

Of course the Confederacy is an inaccurate term considering there was no confederacy for another 71 yrs. or so. I should have referred to the 5 southern states that existed at the time that were needed to ratify the Constitution. 4 of them, as anti-Federalist states, would not vote for the ratification but one would, Virginia. Va. was split between Federalist and Anti-Feds so it would vote for the Constitution if the provision for bearing arms in a 2nd amendment were included.

I bet that many of the gun shootings in the last 10-15 years can be related to one thing – they all participated in violent video games. Let’s ban the violent video games that kids of all ages are playing.

My sons told me there are many games that are too violent. They have no interest in them. With the selection of games on the market there are several others they would rather buy.
