About seven years ago, the Duluth school district embarked on a comprehensive project to reduce the number of schools in operation and update those that remained. Funding sources included operational savings from running fewer schools, energy rebates, a tax increase and revenue from the sales of unused properties.

School district didn’t listen the first time. Look at the monstrosity of debt they incurred.
The only reason they are asking for input now is to get money. Their 12% tax increase isn’t enough for them
Of the $5.3 mil/year savings only $833,000 is from utilities reduction. $3mil is staff reductions.
So much for JCI energy savings. What they promised at the St. Louis Co school district didn’t materialize, nor at the Duluth Steam Plan. Paynesville was smart and sent them packing, paying them to leave.
Gronseth was a big Red Plan supporter . He never pushed for a compromise.
Too little too late.
They thought buildings (atriums, big pools, extra stadiums…) not kids.
