Someone pointed out on the DNT that this tribe is now extremely wealthy thanks to gaming. If so …. I’m happy for them. Sad way to be remembered.

What happened to these people 150 years ago was a grave injustice, but they were caught up in a situation where other peoples were invading their land and pushing them out. They were fighting for their lives. What would we do under similar circumstances? Fight back, I am sure. It matters not that they might be wealthy today. Their living conditiions prior to gaming were not good, to put it mildly. The word disgraceful comes to mind…all do to the ‘promises’ by the U.S. Govt. It happened all over north America and all the way to the southern tip of south America. Both sides lost….but the Aboriginal side lost much more than the European side. My great-grandfather participated in the Battle of New Ulm. His name is on a memorial there somewhere. He walked away from that alive and farmed the rest of his life. Life was tough back then. It’s good to see that the Dakota are being recognized for their sacrifice as well.
