I’ve been thinking too that if the people of Worthington want a library it should be at least a 50-50 proposition with the county. The people of Worthington are going to be by far the largest users of a library while the farmers some of whom live 30 miles from Worthington are the main taxpayers of the county. A comment was made that we couldn’t afford a bike trail because the county roads (and bridges) are in bad shape yet the county can afford a multi million dollar new library? I don’t think so. It’s my understanding that libraries such as in Brandon, Sd are half and half between the city and the county. In Sioux Falls the libraries are almost entirely paid for by the city. If it’s new library time it’s time for Worthington to pony up some of that $10 million.
Hot debate. What do you think?
