NRA calls for armed police officers in every school

The nation’s largest gun-rights lobby is calling for armed police officers to be posted in every American school to stop the next killer “waiting in the wings.” Continue Reading

Makes sense to me. More citizens have been killed in two major school fires/explosions then have been murdered in school shootings. Time to do something that will make a difference, not make us “feel” safe:

So why aren’t responsible gun owners also supportive of stricter gun controls? Guns don’t kill people…but mentally unstable people that have easy access to assault weapons kill people with guns.
The government can monitor our emails, everything we do on line, every time we travel, monitor our phone conversations, track us on cell phones, spy on us with satellites and monitor every banking and finacial transaction we make. So how hard would it be to monitor people with cache of weapons including assault weapons and see if there is history of anyone with mental instability in same household. Won’t stop them all, won’t stop violence from still happening but if the government can monitor everything do can’t we monitor this?
We have homeland security and the Patriot Act…and so what good is having a Police state if they don’t Police? Everyone wants to escalate instead more guns, because crazy folks have too easy an access to guns…well DUH…why don’t we just address that?…it’s not taking guns away from responsible citizens…it’s stopping the madness from happening.
If we say we need to crack down harder and be more diligent on removing drunk drivers from the road…nobody argues with that, it’s common sense…nobody goes crazy and hollers the government wants to take away our cars. Crazy folks will still get hold of guns, will find away around even if put police and barracades around all 90,000 school buildings in this country and drunks who’ve lost right to drive can still get drunk and behind a wheel…but shouldn’t we at least try to curb it?
There is reason they call folks Gun Nuts…because in example gave if crack down harder on drunk drivers, responsible people don’t freak out and say…OMG…we need to buy more cars.

And not once did you mention what we could do with these raving lunatics before they pick up a gun. No, it’s always the gun’s fault, never the psycho who probably belongs in an institution. While you’re busy pointing fingers at everything else, save one for yourself.

Dan~ You must be a champ in that old game “twister” the way you try to twist things up. I pretty clearly and distinctly stated we should use the resources we have to ensure unstable people don’t get access to guns. I never said it was the guns fault, I said in fact everything but that.
I would defend responsible people’s rights to have guns…but think we need better mental health screen and care in schools then we need armed guards. All the shooters in all the school shootings were either students or just went thru school system. We have a clear profile…that is essentially white teenage loners who are socially maladjusted but considered bright in more rural settings. Somewhere along the line our school system let them down….and they snapped. More guns, teachers with conceal and carry, armed Police in hallways all touted as preventive measures but none address the issue these kids somehow fallen thru cracks of system. That to me is the correct preventive measure….try to remove the threat by correctly addressing the source. All the other preventive arguments are after the horse alreay outta the barn…after the kid snapped, after he got lunchhooks on assault weapons and after he’s already entered the school with them with intent to inflict great bodily harm.

Ummmmmm….driving a car is a privilege our society gives after going through a process. Firearm ownership is a right given to all those born or naturalized on the US of A.

Why can’t we look at other changes in schools instead, like framing in doors and windows in such a way, so if shot out, a man can’t slip in? Going to one access door during the day that one has to be buzzed in? Metal detectors? ect, ect….

Kayak Man: Have you served in the military or are you a police officer? What kind of rules for your theoretical gun fight? Wild West stand in the street gunfight or using cover, proper tactics and team movement techniques?

Putting armed guards at every school is a flawed idea due to the fact that there are multiple entrances and thousands of square feet for 1 person to cover and Then you would also need them at malls, churches, and every other place people have been killed, just so people can have some right to own the guns that cause the problem. We will never stop people from killing however we can stop them from killing in mass amounts.
