A higher gas tax, higher license and registration fees and a first-of-its-kind fee according to how many miles you drive. That’s what a special commission recommended today to come up with $6 billion it says will be needed over the next decade just to maintain the quality of Wisconsin roads.

Since the Chevy Suburban get less miles per gallon, the current system of gas taxes handles this just fine. The problem with mileage-based taxing is accounting for miles driven outside of WI. MN was talking about a system where mileage would be monitored by GPS, but that would add about $200 per vehicle for the installation, plus the costs for all of the monitoring.
