These misguided arguments always come out following incidents like Newtown. I will admit I am not a huge supporter of total gun freedom/ownership. However, gun laws wouldn’t have prevented this and access to guns weren’t the cause.
The article wisely stated there are other factors, but fails to understand the focus should be on those factors. The author gave no advice on what the gun control laws should be because he knows he is unable to make any logical argument as to how those laws would be implemented and has no evidence they have ever been effective when tried before. Mom was the one who bought the guns that were used by her mentally ill child. Are you going to make a law that says parents of mentally ill children are banned from firearm purchases? Or psych evals on everyone related to the person buying the firearm prior to approval?
Although its still spectulation at this point, the news is reporting the motive was the guy was mad he was going to be commited by mom and he took it out on her and the school because he believed mom favored the kids over him. Incidents like Newtown and inner city street gun violence won’t be fixed by gun control because lack of gun control isn’t cause. Our drug laws are great, but its simple proof that motivated people will find a way. Focus on and address the cause first, and anyone thinking gun control is the cause doesn’t understand the issue.
Hot debate. What do you think?
