Three new restaurants have come to Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. One serving Mexican cuisine, one Japanese cuisine, and the other sporting a golf theme for their restaurant. Continue Reading

Paradiso, mexican village, and red pepper are americanized mexican food chains. I did not even know there was a place in the grand city mall. This area could use an actual authentic mexican restraunt. It souds like this guy could deliver.

Check out the place in the mall, by far the best in town.

There’s such a thing as “too authentic”. I’ll take Mexican Village any day. (California burrito, red gravy, added jalapenos.)
I wonder which restaurants will be closing once these open for business. This town is SATURATED for restaurants.

Fact is, what is called “authentic” Mexican food is from the northern part of the country. It would be like talking about “authentic” American food. You won’t find grtis, redeye gravy, and possum belly up here. Nor lutefisk in Georgia. Truth is, though, what passes for Mexican food of any variety here is awful. About the only decent place was Mi México.
And Schurkey is right. For every restaurant that opens here, one closes. It’s Newton’s Fourth Law.

My general rule of thumb up here is: if gravy is listed on the menu, write the place off – typical N-side “Mexican”

I’m looking forward to this restaurant. Every decent Mexican place we get (Pablo’s, Mi Mexico) closes, and we get to keep the places that have gross gravies and grinders (just practicing my alliteration there). re: N4L, I can think of a few places that I wouldn’t mind seeing close.

What most people in the US don’t seem to know is that all the tortilla-based foods, rice, and beans are the what the poor people eat in Mexico. The rich eat steaks, lamb, pork, lobster…the stuff the poor can’t afford.
