National view: Reluctant first father should act
December 15, 2012 at 6:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
One of my great hopes for a Barack Obama administration and thus one of my personal disappointments was that he would use his bully pulpit to emphasize the importance of a two-parent family, and especially of fathers, to children’s well-being.

So a nationally syndicated columnist who doesn’t live in Duluth can talk about this stuff, right? But a Duluthian bringing up the same things would be labeled an evil racist, right? Just trying to keep the absurdity straight here.

I’ve never understood why President Obama doesn’t address this glaring issue.

Notice how nobody has the guts to talk about it? They’ll vote down your comments, but they won’t add any of their own.
All this feigned outrage about racism in Duluth is nonsense and the overwhelming majority of Duluthians knows it. Minority communities in Duluth have much bigger, much more substantial internal problems to deal with than their perceived slights from evil white people. But their self-proclaimed “leaders,” as well as local media who keep whipping up the issue at every opportunity, have yet to address any of those issues. Do they want things to improve or don’t they?
Like I said in comments on another of the endless stories about perceived racism that the News Tribune loves to publish because it sells newspapers, without victims there’s no need for superheroes to come in and save them. No victims = no jobs for minority community “leaders” and liberal politicians. There’s little incentive to fix things if you can keep minorities dependent on social welfare programs and promises of perpetual care and tell them from cradle to grave that they can’t possibly succeed on their own because everybody hates them. It’s an addiction like any other drug and their own “leaders” and liberal politicians are the drug dealers. The payoff for the peddlers and pushers is a job for life and continual re-election.
The problems are well-known and this editorial by Parker starts to address at least some of them. But you won’t hear them mentioned, broadcast or published in Duluth. Draw your own conclusions.

Awesome Dan…you were able to try dismiss white racism, blame blacks and claim is their own problem and then promote racist stereotypes that blacks all on welfare and drug dealers….all in one post.
Parker isn’t addressing the problem, like you she’s promoting racist stereotypes of black single mothers and then making outrageous allegation that this is something Obama should address because he’s black….of course you would support this racist drivel…not surprised in the least.
60% divorce rate, lot’s of single parent households because of it….but it’s really a black problem that there’s not father in household with kids……SMH!!..
Even on percentage basis, drug use, even crack, is higher in white community then black..for over decade it’s been in decline in black community and on rise in white community….but of course the drug problem is soley a black community problem…SMH!! We arrest more blacks because again this society is racist, but more whites are doing drugs….speaking of cocaine…whites in minnesota in fact get probation for 5 times more what blacks get prison time for….
The largest group on welfare is married whites in suburbia with kids….but of course it’s really only blacks on welfare…SMH!!
Part of racism in the social programming is promotion of whites as superior and blacks as inferior…which Dan you always seem to do superlative job of supporting…but if you really understood the implications of that you would understand why child molestation is primarily a white culture thing…
Blacks need to address their own issues, they know that…but racism sets up additional hurdles for them and is not level playing field…are we supportive of equality for all or not in this country?
Likewise whites need to address their culutural issues…and the first step would be acknowledging them instead of ignorning them and putting them in blackface as solely black community problems…which is what we always do…it’s what you always do…and it’s what this racist Parker is promoting…

Actually Dan, this column is extremely racist and it doesn’t matter that she’s not in Duluth. The folks in Duluth don’t get it…doesn’t change that this is racist as hell…and why are you continually in threads on racism checking for defending it ? You’re predictable on this topic..and I wonder why…but not really..
This is perfect example, this author brings up ONLY that blacks have children where no father in the home because they aren’t wed. She promotes this racist notion in citing it as black community problem then states is disappointed that Obama hasn’t fixed that, because he’s black and so he knows…WTH!!!
It’s racist and clueless as hell, but here’s what talking about and what the unfair campaign tried to educate on, most whites believe that is true. The problem isn’t that all whites are intentional racists, that’s what got all twisted up with unfair campaign…it’s that whites are conditioned to believe falsehoods…which then does suppot racism. Not intentionally, not wittingly, but supports it all the same. This author is promoting white racism, Dan is supporting it and most whites will believe this racist drivel because they’ve heard it enough times that they believe it’s true. But it’s just more of the conditioning of white culutural to support racist beliefs.
Because of racism, because of whites making institutions and laws that favor whites and used to punish blacks the black community isn’t all down with supporting the same institutions in same manner as whites. One example is they don’t believe in marriage as we do. Culuturally to them, if are living together and in love, that’s good enough and don’t just consider as good as being married they’ll even refer to it as married. Our legal pieces of paper “granting them permission” doesn’t hold the same weight with them that does us. If you think about it you can see why…we taught them that. Culturally forever whites were pressured into marriage over stigma in culture of unwed mothers and illigitimate children…doesn’t matter if child born 6 months after married, all good if at least married. Blacks culutral background was there never was that stigma, for generations and generations there weren’t church services and legal documents and sex happens…they just could jump the broom together and that worked, they were married, not legally in our eyes, but was same in theirs.
They will refer to your significant other as your spouse, wife or husband even though not married. Known black couple raising 7 kids, together 15 years and wonderful couple and was fortunate to be invited to their wedding, they finally did after 15 years…BUT for 15 years they were a statistic of unwed mother with children. Known lots of black couples together for years and consider themselves married and some together decades and still in love, but legally they aren’t married and legally then if have children it’s a statistic of unwed mother with children. LOL…according to numerous blacks known been married 3 more times then actually have legally myself..
So the author is clueless about cultural differences but uses her ignorance to promote racist stereotype. And whites are quick to believe it as true. And there you have a perfect instance of white supporting racism completely unwittingly just by promoting and repeating stereotypes and other whites hearing it thinking is true without either having any real experiences in black community so believe is true. So another racist stereotype marches on and whites who believe this will holler that absolutely not, they don’t support racism.
Interesting that author pretty much bashed on blacks while advocating that the father should stick around and stay with mother and be in home to help raise children and again tried to push that as the biggest fatherless problem we have is among blacks…and it IS a problem for blacks…there must be some instances to continue to keep the stereotype alive…it’s when we take that stereotype and use as broadbrush against a whole group of people that becomes racist….but it is problem for them, just like IS a problem for everyone else.
With a 60% divorce rate EXACTLY how is this strictly a black issue? Exactly how with 60% divorce rate are white fathers doing a better job of stickng with mother and in house to raise children? Seriously,am sure we all know a lot of whites where the mother left to raise the kids, the father abandoned them and she has to fight to even get child support..even when legally divorced. Surely I’m not the only one that can think of plenty of white examples of this, am sure we all can. I am not denying that the black community has this problem but clearly this author is denying it’s a white problem also.
I’m sure in fact most whites can think of far more white males that abandoned their kids or whites that had children out of wedlock…then they do blacks that have. So how do we collectively believe that it’s really a black community issue? Because that stereotype keeps being pushed by people like this author and Dan often enough and whites believe it is true… …and in so doing…by nothing more then believing it they’re supporting racist stereotypes.
Here’s the BIG problem that whites don’t get about racism. By painting problems in blackface then whites ignore the real problems because they don’t think it’s their problem. Racism is considered as something strictly against blacks but it’s just as deteremental to white cultural in some instances creates bigger problems for whites because… Racist stereotypes are used to absolve the white race of their own problems.
Children being raised by single parents without both parents involved is a problem in this society for ALL Americans….saying it’s primarily a black problem like this author did and trying to claim that Obama can fix it because he’s black…but it’s avoidance of dealing with this is problem for all of us.
When we portray as always have, drugs and drug dealers as a primary black community problem, which we’ve done for decades, we ignore the impact it is having in white community because we don’t think it’s our problem. Drug use even on percentage basis is much higher in white community and contrary to the racist stereotype even crack is more prevelant in white community then black community in fact cocaine always has been..but we’re told to ignore it because it’s a black community problem …we arrest and imprison more blacks for it, but more whites are doing it. Our ignoring it and focusing on thinking it’ a black problem instead of looking at as problem in our society ironically has allowed the problem to mushroom to epic proportions for white community. But this is what white culture does, it ignores it’s problems and paints everything, crime, drugs, welfare and single parents as a black community thing. When more crime, drugs, welfare and single parents are really in the white culture.
So how the hell was Obama suppossed to fix our societal problem of too many single parent households….oh, yeah…because he’s aware of the real problem because he’s black…..SMH!!
