Volunteers spent countless hours examining athletics at Jamestown Public Schools and provided recommendations on ways to improve them. Now it’s time for the administration to make that happen. Continue Reading

It’s not going to make a difference. Jamestown just doesn’t have enough kids to consistently compete with the bigger schools.
Hot debate. What do you think?

I disagree. The numbers excuse is just that, an excuse. We have heard that for years, but amazingly we won in the past with the same number of kids.
The problem these days, is parents making their kids stick to one sport. If it’s football, they go to football camps all year, hockey it’s hockey camps and summer leagues, basketball, baseball etc.
Does this work in a bigger town, yes and there in may be a numbers issue because you do have more kids to focus on one sport. But how often does a player focusing on one sport make it big at that sport? How often do we here of a baseball, basketball or football player being drafted by a pro team, and that sport wasn’t their primary one growing up?
Why did that happen? Because they were athletes first and basketball or hockey or football players second. We need our kids in Jamestown to be in a different sport every season, unfortunately we have had coaches in the past that want them eating, breathing and sleeping one sport. That is what needs to change.

I have alway believed that a multi-sport athlete is a better athlete than a one-sport athlete. Ask Darin Erstad, Doug Beudoin or Tom Petrik to name a few.
