No vote on Fighting Sioux nickname in 2014
December 13, 2012 at 4:44 am in Grand Forks Herald
Supporters of UND’s old Fighting Sioux nickname did not submit
petitions to force another statewide vote on the issue by Wednesday’s
deadline, Secretary of State Al Jaeger said today. Continue Reading

Well they would be stupid to… 1. Sioux is already going through the process of changing over (ice already changed) 2. Jerseys already altered to just ND logos or north dakota 3. all places that have the sioux jerseys are doing massive sales specially the sioux shop 23bux for a hoodie!
it would be kicking a dead horse if they even thought of doing another useless petition NCAA would fine them till we just go under and im sure betty would rather spend money on other things. not only that but Frozen Four would be gone.. and im sure the World Juniors wouldnt happen EVEN if its not a NCAA event… it would just poison that.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Please Lord let this be the last we hear of this issue. Enough time, treasure, and talent have already been wasted. Let us move on to what really matters: making sure our university system works

There’s a steadfast resolve (thankfully less than 3% of the voter population) more persistent than an incurable infection. Thanks, Mr. Haga. I would like to see all of your articles packaged and sold online. Also, someone could condense it into a textbook. You recorded hundreds of teachable moments that were completely wasted by your readers.

Hey….I guess I was mistaken.
I thought the whole problem the NCAA had was with the name AND logo.
After all the money spent and time and effort expended…..they suddenly have no problem with the Ralph
all you Sioux haters must be so proud.

So, the fact that I wear Sioux logoed gear and reluctantly supported (later), the name change makes me a “hater?

Why doen’t Berkeley Bob refuse to let HIS University compete in such a racist and poltically incorrect facility?
I know why….and so do you…..cowardice.

I don’t usually agree with you, but I will have to concur with you on one thing. My daughter is only 10 and already she has committed to NDSU! Says that she hates all the drama at UND. Can’t blame her for wanting to follow in her father’s footsteps. GO BISON!!!

your call…
Why did you wear the logo?
To honor or to disparage?
hater?……your call.
The NCAA called you hostile and abusive….but now they seem a little less adamant about the whole idea….
Just bunch of liimousine liberals foisting their unprincipled values on others. And they get away with it because of wishy-washy wimps…

My family and friends will wear clothing with the ‘Sioux’ name and logo to each and every Sioux sport event forever. We have stocked up…try to take it away from us !!

From what I can tell so far this year, the majority of non students still wear their Sioux gear to games. That is to be expected. I imagine it will be so for another 2-3 years; at least until a new name is chosen.
One of my old employees and I often meet up when we are both at the games. He is an ardent FS fan and wears even more regalia than he used to. I still wear my UND hoodie (the one I had to special order because the bookstore did not have anything without a logo at the time).
What is funny is no one really cares or notices. We are just two people out to support our team. That is the reality of the situation. Outside of these boards and a few personal statements of belief (our clothes) the rest of the world has moved on.
As evidence I would encourage you to look at what most of the students are wearing. SiouxCrew was last year … they now have different shirts

You miss the point…it is not about hoodies and caps.
It is about right and wrong.
Either the logo is hostile and abusive……or it is not.
The NnCaAzAi says it is…and threatened the school with (meaningless) sanctions if it did not comply. The Chicken Littles got scared and the libs pushed for their politically correct agenda.
Now (after the glorious victory by Berkrley Bob and his cowardly coaches) the NCAA demonstrates how offfensive and evil the name and logo are….by hosting their NCAA events in an arena emblazoned with the same offensive and evil symbols.
The NCAA….a bigger collection of immoral, unethical, unprincipled fools could not be found.
The name and logo will endure and the ignorance and hypocrisy of the NCAA and Berkeley Bob will be exposed…that is….if there is any justice in this world.
So….maybe not.

Oh come on AC! As an attorney you damn well justice does not always prevail. Attorneys often arrange plea bargains for their clients in fear of harsher penalties being handed out. This Sioux debacle is no different. I am at loss why you will not come to those terms.
As far as “a bigger collection of immoral, unethical, unprincipled fools could not be found” uhmm..D…uhmm..C

Always we just spent two years discussing right & wrong. I thought getting rid of the name was the right thing to do before the NCAA even got involved. You disagree.
This is much more a win/lose situation than right/wrong.
Truth, justice, & the American way won this issue. There are 100 more in the pipeline I am not as confident about.

Truth?
—you mean the truth the NCAA espoused about how the name and logos would have to go. Or, maybe the truth the coaches told about how they would not be able to get into the Big Lie Conf…when it was already a done deal? The truth from Berkeley Bob as he skulked around like a jailhouse snitch, undoing everything the supporters of the name were doing, continually lying about his true agenda?
Yeh, truth.
Justice?
…hmmmm..,let’s break it down…according to Merriam-Webster.
1a : the maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments.
Impartial adjustment….disproved…NCAA treats one group “fighting Sioux” different and unequally than “fighting Irish.” The Seminoles use the imagery, but not the Sioux…that behavior does not fit the definition of justice.
Assignment of rewards and punishment…not….Although the NCAA stated what the sanctions would be…once they realized that the sanctions were meaningless, they made a concerted effort to coerce other schools to sanction UND, by doing so they went beyond the scope of the agreement….that behavior does not fit the definition of justice.
2a : the quality of being just, impartial, or fair …see above.
3: conformity to truth, fact, or reason : The NCAA and Berkeley Bob woefully inadequate on every count…see above.
The American way…if the American way to you carries the example of the behavior of the deceitful Berkeley Bob and the despicable soulless NCAA….well…
Not my America.

Fighting Sioux is hostile and abusive, it receives national attention for it being so politically incorrect in these times we live.
People fight over the name for years.
Now…..
Turn on Television and see whats on there, words that 10 years ago would have made a prostitute blush are the norm, sex on tv is just one small step from flat out pornography.
I have lost all sense of what we as a nation deem important in life today.
When we worry more about a Logo than the moral decay of our society i just give up.
Lets never speak of the Sioux again in open forums, that should at least make one or two people happy.
Now how about we address how far in the muck we have sunk as a society on issues that actually matter?
