I’m not sure why you guys just don’t dump the news and print nothing but stories about Herald employees.

Your question might be better addressed to the staff of the Grand Forks Herald. Contact information is available here: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/contact/

“You guys” refers to the Herald. Since they consider Marilyn’s jaunts as news, I just figured they’d might as well dedicate all their pages to their employees adventures.

Thank you, but it was really rhetorical. I don’t expect anyone at the Herald to answer my criticisms.

Oh for the love of God … Gene you have been trying for months to get Mike Jacobs to acknowledge you. Just admit it so we can move forward.

I never figured Jacobs would answer; he hates criticism. I did get Dennis to answer once, where he maintained there was a wall between the news room and the advertising office (Yeah, right.). But you got Haga to respond to you. Congrats.

I had a vision of this group of journalists sitting around the board room table sharing stories about the bloggers they dislike immensely. They do allow us some creative freedom though which I appreciate.

Limited freedom. There is still the question of who decides what stories are open for comment. Take the story today of Delmore, who pleaded guilty to soliciting. There have been five stories on this, and every one refers to an “unnamed UND professor.” Why is he unnamed? Why is he even mentioned? I have a hunch most everyone at UND knows who he is. That the Herald won’t reveal him is intriguing.

Why aren’t you asking someone who could answer your question instead of posting the question on the comments section, where it might well not be seen?
You have the email address. You have the phone number. If you want to ask why certain stories are open for comment, please ask!
But ask someone who can answer rather than putting it on the comments thread of a story that has absolutely nothing to do with your question. It is not on-topic.

Kari you have to understand that these guys/people/whatever live their silly online lives where they can complain and get people riled up. They are the folks who, prior to the convenience and wide ranging reach of the internet, would not be invited to parties because they’d embarrass themselves with their lopsided rhetoric and inability to talk about anything without having the last word. By posing their “questions” online, they get to act like children and pretend they are smarter or better, or always right, or whatever twisted ego-driven reason drives what they do. Nobody would like them in real life if they acted the way they do online, so they of course use the comment sections to draw in others and sucker their victims into “conversations” where they can be the bullies they love to be. Yes, some of them may be highly educated, well read, and follow politics more than I do, but at least I have the sense not to spout my polemic views at EVERY chance. Yes, we get it that they don’t like the City, the newspaper, the civic facilities, the successful local businesses, etc., ad nauseum. They are the winners, we are the losers. Get used to it. Sigh.

This is social media. What I read here is not that different than what I hear from my neighbors. It’s real and I like real.

Arleigh, what about those frequent posters that don’t hate the city , the newspaper, the civic facilities, successful local businesses etc.? You’re generalizing too much.

I think the word “hate” is harsh. I know the blogers on this site. I really believe they don’t say anything they wouldn’t face to face with an individual. Not here … I have seen forums that are hate filled and reprehensible but this isn’t one of them.
** Congratulations Marilyn. And thank you for sharing your space with us.

spearman is simply using a common ploy whereby disagreement is mischaracterized as personal animus. You see it a lot in religious discussions when atheists are said to “hate God,” when in reality there is no more hate there than of pink unicorns. Why hate something you don’t believe exists. It’s nothing more than a shortcut: attack the person instead of his argument.

Congratulations Marilyn. I’m not a fan of Top Chef so I didn’t catch your appearance. I’m sure you were great.
I want to say that I am hooked on the regular commentors on the Grand Forks Herald’s online newspaper. Gene and Schurkey could be my dad and my uncle, they are that similar.

Everyone should be thankful they have a forum to comment on news articles in their local paper. The West Central Tribune changed their online paper and now there is no place to comment/ask questions/etc. Frankly, I think they took a page from the City Council’s playbook here in Willmar.

I noticed that and wondered if the hot topics concerning council members and the mayor were the reason comments are no longer allowed on the Trib. What a shame. There were some great contributors on that site.

Best place to ask about that would be the West Central Tribune.
Here’s the contact information: http://www.wctrib.com/contact-us Probably the best person to ask would be the editor, Kelly Boldan–he’s pretty helpful and I’m positive he’ll answer any questions you have. His email and phone number are both on the page above.

It’s time for Hagerty to retire. No one wants to hear about her social climbing anymore. Her desperate need to be in the paper along with name dropping her friends has turned the Herald into nothing more than a gossip rag. It’s one of the reasons I let my subscription lapse last year. Hagerty is an embarrassment. Enough already!
