The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners was updated on the latest plans to renovate a softball diamond to fast-pitch standards at its monthly meeting Monday. Continue Reading

This sounds like a good opportunity for a fundraiser. Raising $50-60k shouldn’t be too difficult if JC can be involved. They probably have some deep pocket donors with an interest in softball.

One complaint I hear about this project is that it will only benefit a select group of people. However, bringing tournaments into town benefits hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc., something Jamestown would be crazy to not want to do. Kudos to Coach Gall and everyone else involved with this project. Definitely long overdue in my opinion.

“Doug Hogan, Parks and Recreation director, said he would like to see all the softball fields relocated to Hillcrest Park and the soccer fields currently there relocated to Meidinger Park. ”
Where does this guy get these ideas from? Why does it always seem like intead of working with a person with a idea to improve this town this guy always trys to throw a wrench into it with some off the wall ideas? So if you move all the softball fields to Hillcrest what would happen to the old fields behind park plaza mall? And the big question how much would that cost? Makes no sence to me! Keep fighting for whats right Mr. Gall.

Some ideas that I have heard discussed would be turning the current softball diamonds into fields for little league baseball, and making 2 larger size baseball fields out of the current baseball diamonds behind Coborn’s. Soccer would be ideal to have at Meidinger Park, but there’s got to be a huge cost involved to get that area suitable for use (parking, plumbing, electrical, etc.) Something needs to be done, and yes, it’s going to cost money, but why not put the money into it and have nice facilities that each of these groups can benefit from?
