DFL vows to attack deficit first in Legislature
December 10, 2012 at 6:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
ST. PAUL Democrats will regain the majority in the Minnesota House and Senate and retain the governor’s office in the 2013 legislative session, but they said Monday they don’t plan to overreach.

I don’t want Dayton to attack anything in his condition. Seriously, this guy needs to resign and live the rest of his life in a stress-free environment far far away from any type of political decision making. This is not the face of a health human being, it is one of severe mental pain and anguish.

Obviously the Governor is strangely short on graceful poise. Curious, but superficial. More interesting is how with his background he would develop such a sensible compassion. Our local version of Warren Buffet. Maybe he has an inner strength to avoid the temptation of corruption. Maybe he is in some real pain and that has allowed him to empathize with others. Whatever the case I like his views and would vote for him again.

Spoken like a true bleeding-hearted liberal. I can bet you that Warren Buffet would not vote for Red Mark Dayton!

Red Mark Dayton. What does that even mean? Your party is sure facing some challenges with changing demographics. Gonna have to reinvent itself. Look at Texas, your beloved parties biggest and most important state. Hispanics will pass caucasians in population in less than two years. By 2040 the white population will amount to 25% of the state’s population. I don’t think it will be long before Ohio is not mentioned much in pre election coverage; won’t matter when Texas is blue, Son. New York, California and Texas all blue, my boy. Might have to evolve a little yourself!

Hey middleman: What does New York and California have in common besides being loyal dumbocratic blue states and having a huge population of welfare/social service leaching immigrants? Answer: They are both seriously looking at filing bankrupcy because their state budgets are in such bad shape (don’t believe me…check the various news sources). Coincidence you think? Probably not. So you think Minnesota should be a blue state and follow New Yorks’ and Californias’ examples?

Well Uly, I don’t know too much about the state of New York and Cali. I do know the I want Minnie to be blue as we have been with much success. My point was this current run of the GOP is over in my opinion and they need to change if they want to compete.

middleman: Once again I agree with you. I feel the Republican party is pretty much dead due to the dinosaur stances they took. Yes indeed, I am a fiscal conservative but I never aligned myself with the Republican party. I might be enthused by a resurgence of the Tea Party which could easily give the Dems a run for their money. But yes, I feel the Repubs are pretty much done for due to their inability to adapt to a changing society. I think they deserve their fate.

R. Vespa……LOL!! You have that right…..we all know what is coming…..more taxes…..and existing taxes @ higher rates…..guaranteed! Instead of CUTTING EXPENSES….they just take the easy way….increase taxes! Only problem is…..most folks in Minnesota ( and across the country )….are all tapped out…..no more cash to give…..everyone ( for the most part is living paycheck to paycheck ) is basically …..broke! Back to the same old question…..”how do you squeeze blood out of a turnip”? Not only are State taxes going to go up…..St Louis Cty….City of Duluth….of course the School Board ( another 12% )….and of course, the U.S. Gov’t……ALL going UP…..AGAIN!! Is CHINA going to be holding ALL THE TRUMP CARDS???

Sorry, middle man, but wrong again. The Republican-controlled House and Senate made the dent in the deficit under Clinton. He had very little to do with it.

That is your take, I don’t agree. We have a republican house now and they will be forced to accept Clinton’s tax levels on the wealthy. Forced by a different Democratic president. That was Clinton’s economy and ever since he has been gone the deficit has grown. How can you not see the correlation between REPUBLICAN tax cuts and wars and the deficit. I have an answer, you are blinded by your ridiculous ideology.

Why do Democrats refuse to commit to holding spending at current levels and USE EVERY PENNY OF TAX INCREASES TOWARD PAYING OUR DEBT! A commitment like this would get most Republicans on board with a tax increase, but without a commitment we know that every penny of additional income raised with a tax increase will just be sprayed out the proverbial money hose in all directions and next year we’ll be in the same predicament – up to our eyeballs in debt but with higher taxes.

Obama inherited a ridiculous mess. I think he’s done a great job and you don’t know it but you are lucky he won again. My prediction is that the republican are on a downward slide; the top of that slide and we are all set to have another Dem in office after Obama. Remember where you heard that. To me this is awesome. The uncomprehending disbelief on the face of Rove and others on election night was not only comical it also illustrated that the GOP still doesn’t get it and has yet to hit bottom! Hip Hip Hooray! Gloat!

No I remember that ugly mess. My Opinion is that was a last gasp of a dying republican breed. There will not be enough of the same kind of people to achieve those results. The demographics are changing and quickly. It’s like a snowball; we’ve seen it with other things, technology, population growth. There are going to be conservatives of all races or groups, but the republicans will have to change if they want to reach them. Some ways of thinking will have to be left behind. I say good riddance.

The economy is slowly recovering from eight years of unprecedented greed and shortsightedness during the Bush regime. In four years we will be in even better shape. In the past what would then happen is people start feeling better about things; they have a little money in their pockets, so they are more inclined to listen to Repubs to protect their new money. Repubs get voted in, deficits rise the economy dives and we do it all over again.
My hope is with the change in demographics and people’s disillusionment due to how far we were ground down by the Bush years will combine to give us a Democratic successor to Obama. If that happens we may have enough time to really improve our education system and ….universal healthcare?
Think about it. This country could be so much better. We have the potential.

What society is better one where a few have almost everything or when more have more? There is only one answer. When more have more more people would say things are going well. I don’t advocate for socialism I just disagree with a society where those in power rig the system to gain ever more power

The tax and spend line by Republicans is BS. Always has been. All they do is make sure the top gets as much as possible and the will go to war to do it. Kill the poor in the process. It is that bad. The poor I speak of are our soldiers and anyone who dies in the countries we attack. It is that bad. Do you think Haliburton is a joke? No it is in your face CORRUPTION. If you vote for these people you are a fool.

Two thumbs down and nobody cares, but this is the truth. The Republicans have and do spend more. So the basis of your voting for them is false. Only 2% of the population would benefit in the short term from their policies then in the long run the country, as we have seen suffers. The top 2% has done well during the downturn, but it is unsustainable because of the damage these policies do to the overall economy.

Tax the rich, restore local government aid, legalize gay marriage, make it illegal to bust Labor Unions, make it illegal to force voter ID, pay back the 2.4 billion dollars the Republicans stole from the schools and make a Constitutional Amendment that will always allow a woman to have an abortion if she chooses!! This is where the Dems should start…then they should really get to work to restore Minnesota to the great State it once was and quit turning it into Mississippi like the the Republicans want.
