Bob Costas’ commentary/lecture/rant on gun control to the 18 million viewers of Sunday Night Football’s halftime show brought predictable outrage from the National Rifle Association and friends, but it couldn’t have been more timely. And not just because of the murder-suicide committed by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher that prompted it.

The racism card is a crutch used by those who lack the ability to defend their position. If they can’t defeat you on the merits of their own argument, you are immediately labeled a racist. Another NFL player was killed over the weekend in a drunk driving crash (the drunk driver was another NFL player.) But I have yet to see Costas or the lefties call for a ban on cars. Or alcohol.

“Costas is taking shots from the gun-rights crowd for saying, “If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kassandra Perkins would both be alive today.” Clearly under pressure since his venting, Costas clarified his position on guns Tuesday, but he didn’t back down. He said “access to guns is too easy in some cases.”
How about talking about domestic violence?? Fine…take away the guns if you wish. Jovan Belcher was a NFL linebacker…he could have beat his girlfriend to death with his bare hands. Clearly he was a troubled individual…not sure Costas took on the right issue in this case.

Why does everyone blame the left for wanting gun control? I’ve been left my whole life and I’ve never been for gun control. Ever. Even, if I don’t own any guns, I believe everyone is entitled to own them. Maybe everybody should pack. That would make the bad guys think twice about committing a crime. I don’t personally know any person on the left that is against gun ownership. Remember, there are crazies on the outer fringes of both sides.

Why doesn’t the left ever criticize Holywood for all of the violent garbage they push on our young people in the movies and TV? Do you not think we are desensitizing ourselves to violence? Compare the Batman TV series in 1966 to today’s Batman movies. Compare ANY show from even 10 years ago to today and you’ll see a marked increase in vulgarity and violence that has slowly taken over everything. The same can be said for video games. We are bombarded with it on a daily basis. I’m not for trouncing on the 1st Ammendment but do people not see any tie between Hollywood violence and real violence? Our founding fathers realized the neccessity for citizens to have the right to keep and bear arms and that right is just as neccessary today.
Why do we need to keep our 2nd Ammendment Right? Oh, I don’t know, why do our domestic agencis need millions of rounds of hollow point bullets – more than used in the Iraq war? Why would the Social Security Administration or NOAA (NOAA seriously??) need guns let alone hollow point rounds? Where’s the left’s outrage there?
