I hope every bar in the state finds a way to get around this ridiculous law and allow smoking in their establishments. Enough is enough. I like knowing that it’ll cause the anti-smoking knowitalls to sweat bullets in their sleep knowing someone figured out how to get around their attempt at control.

I thought the law went too far and didn’t support it…..If there’s loop holes they’ll probably get them changed. One thing of note though through all this discussion about smoking or not in public….Is nobody ever seems to express the most basic solution….Stop smoking and you’ll never have to worry about where you go. As a former smoker (Some 30 years ago) I know how tough it can be to quit, but I also know how myself and every smoker I knew always wished to be able to stop. We knew it was a waste of money. We knew we were very addicted to tobacco. We knew we’d like to breath better and feel more healthy, but we knew that every time we tried to quit that something screwed up and we either didn’t make it or just didn’t make it long.
I think many of the people who claim to be so angry about not smoking in public are probably just as angry at themseoves for not being able to stop. Anyway…If that’s yhou…check out the American Cancer Society…They have a lot of great tips for quitting smoking and staying smoke free for the rest of your life…..If you make it a few months, you’ll soon be on the side of smoke free establishments too…

Well t-bone if cigarettes are so bad why does the government subsidize tobacco growers? Frankly the suits are not honorable people. They don’t have the right to tell us we can’t smoke when they are in bed with tobacco lobbyists.
How much credo would I have with my own kids if after telling them not to do drugs I gave money to meth manufacturers to keep them in business? See … this is why I don’t approve of the political process in this country.
Just for the record … I do not smoke cigarettes. But I do support personal freedom and a right to choose whether or not a business (which only allows adults) can operate as smoke free or not. I … for one…. would choose smoke free establishments. I believe I should have the right to do so. I don’t need the government to this for me.

LoL! the government subsidizes many things. A good number of which someone believes is not good for us, sugar for instance. Don’t expect our government to work in a logical manner or make logical decisions. It never has and never will.

I agree that subsidizing tobacco growers makes no sense. However, it makes less sense to connect the no smoking ban in North Dakota to the federal government in any way. The ban is the result of an initiated measure. The voters passed the measure. Call them idiots for wanting to breath clean air if you want, but it has nothing to do with the feds.
I am happy that the measure passed, but I also support the bar owner in his attempt to circumvent the law. If people want to become members of a smokers’ only bar and no employees are forced to breath the polluted air, I don’t have a problem with it at all. I think they should have that freedom.
However, I never have believed smokers should have the freedom to smoke in the presence of non-smokers and force them to breathe polluted air. I think the “If you don’t like it, stay out” attitude is arrogant. Evidently the majority of North Dakota’s voters agree with me.

But … through their policies the government shares some of the blame for getting people addicted to this substance.

I have no idea what makes you think there was anything to argue with me about…You and I already agreed about the subsidies in previous discussions, and as I said…I too think they went too far on some of these restrictions…Especially considering many bars already made seperate smoking areas at their own expense that are primarily useless now in many cases because who want to sit outside the main action if not to smoke?
I don’t understand your statement, “if cigarettes are so bad why does the government subsidize tobacco growers?” That’s an odd statement to make because those two things really don’t relate to each other. If you were a former (Or possibly present) smoker nobody has to tell you smoking is bad for you….You know…Every smoker knows…..Unfortunately nicotine is extremely addicting and the frequency that a smoker lights up on a daily basis makes quitting a very difficult process. If you question this, then I guess you’d have to experience it first hand to understand…..But save yourself the torement and believe me when I say…It is…
