Social Security was sold as an insurance program. If insurance claims were means tested, only poor people would buy insurance.

Unfortunately you will not find a plan that both pays down the debt and meets the obligations as presently construed. We are the largest economy in the world but our economy is not large enough to do that.
You will never be able to meaningfully address the debt without entitlement reform. The numbers simply do not work.
It is not a political point of view. It is math.

Fly, I agree, but Glenn makes some good points. Why not start with an idea like this? Internet sales should probably not be exempt. Yes, this alone won’t be enough, but it’s a start. And lawmakers seem to need help with ideas to get them started right now….
