Fargo bar says it will exploit smoking ban ‘loophole’
December 5, 2012 at 6:40 pm in Grand Forks Herald
The owner of JT Cigarro and Skky Bar believes he has a way to get around the state smoking ban that is effective today. Public health officials say not so fast. Continue Reading

Good for them. I hope it is effective.. If not I hope they can challenge the law. A place like this, that was specifically set up as a business that sells tobacco and is a smoke shop should have been grandfathered in..

Actually I wonder if there is a way to sue Chelsey Matters in civil court. She has effectively put a business and employees on the street. She has damaged the owners ability to earn a living.. If it wasn’t for her continued involvement in attempting to pass this law he would still have a viable business.

I totally agree with him. Afterall, like the “public” goes to a cigar shop. I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my entire life but find this mentality of others to constantly push their views on everyone else to be totally out of control. Up next, scales at McDonalds and in the ice cream isle. Afterall, I do believe obesity is now the number one killer in our country.

Sure hope the city doesn’t find a loophole in his liquor license.

If I had my druthers, I’d cobble together some cinder blocks, a few 2x4s, some fence slats, some chicken wire, a heater and a tin roof, and build me a little out-door shelter 20 feet from every other building downtown. Like on the greenway. Have a little heated smoker shack so we won’t have to suffer more than we already put ourselves through. I’d leave a metal pail in the middle and I bet enough people would chip in a quarter I’d have that sucker paid for in less than a year.
Hey, I wonder if more people will just hop in their cars and burn gasoline and pollute the air now that there is no other way to smoke away from home?
Goal: prevent combustion from causing cancer
Unintended consequence: increase combustion causing global warming
I’m so mad right now I’ve gotta go have a cigarette.

You guys should have pushed your legislature to take on the issue and pass a law instead of a special interest group pushing and drafting the admendment! There is no way North dakota did not see this coming.

Many newspaper today contained articles about “Pot smokers celebrate in streets as Wash. State legalizes marijuana*. I certainly hope that they didn’t light up within 20 feet of entrances or in areas where there might be employees.

I love how we are pushing to essentially ban smoking, while a petition went around for the very same election to allow medical marijuana. Absolutely astounding how people continually vote away one freedom at a time.

The smoking ban law that passed should not be viewed as a success or win for North Dakota or anyone else. The only thing that has been achieved is the further stripping of our individual rights and freedom of choice. Every time a law is passed in this country our freedoms are being restricted or eliminated. And Americans simply keep voting their individual rights away. With unending patience, perseverance, and continual donations coming from supporters ANY law can be passed against your individual freedoms. It has taken since the 70′s to finally ban smoking. Started with no advertising in magazines, no TV commercials, extreme propaganda campaigns, health warnings, age restrictions, countless studies for health issues, reports of what smoking cost tax payers, etc, etc, but it passed. What are YOU going to do when THEY take away GUN OWNERSHIP next? It is here! Stop voting away freedom!!

As long as I don’t have to catch a whiff of cigarette smoke, folks should be able to do what they want. This beats walking down a street and getting whiffs of smoke when you walk past folks trying to smoke on the sidewalk.
