LLOYD OMDAHL: Washington Post ranks Heitkamp as best
December 2, 2012 at 6:05 pm in Grand Forks Herald
After ranking Gov. Rick Perry of Texas as the worst candidate in 2012, The Washington Post turned around and proclaimed Heidi Heitkamp as the best.
The Post pointed out that Mitt Romney garnered 58 percent of the 323,000 votes in North Dakota while Barack Obama received only 39 percent. The Post was impressed with Heitkamp’s ability to overcome this gap of 19 percent and make it to a bare 50 percent plus. Continue Reading

No matter what Lloyd writes I think it should be called grumpy old guy says.
I supported Heitkamp but why does Lloyd have that photo that always makes him look angry and disagreeable. Let’s face it Mike Jacobs isn’t a spring chicken but in his photo he looks friendly

“That was not a fair comment, because as written, we don’t know what these alleged flaws were.”
Berg’s largest flaw was hubris. He felt he had it in the bag so never really tried that hard. He had the money, endorsements, & national machinery behind him. In his mind there was no way he could possibly lose.
Heidi never fell victim to her own press releases. She left it all on the field till the finish.
I followed both campaigns on Facebook. Every other day Heidi was holding a hot dish for Heidi event somewhere. Berg held “rallies” intermittently.
I think this race would be a great case study for rural politicians who want to succeed. From a poly-sci point of view it was great.

I don’t dispute your analysis, but how is living in Mandan rural?

Gene, our biggest city is the size of a suburb. Simply living in ND qualifies you as rural.

Then it would have applied to both candidates, not just Heitkamp. But be careful, FN, you’ll tick off the people who actually believe they’re living in the Grand Cities, instead of a little town on the edge of the prairie.
