North Dakota has been republican for many years before they saw the current oil boom. Before the oil boom, the state was not doing nearly as well. Should we blame the republicans for all the bad pre-boom years in ND? North Dakota is temporarily doing well, largely due to the sheer luck of the oil boom.
Republicans also run Montana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Alabama. These states are the poorest in the nation, and don’t have the sheer luck of an oil boom in their states. If you are correct, then the blame for these states failures fall on republican shoulders. Democrats run Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, and most of the richest states.
North Dakota has very, very high tax revenues per resident, mostly from the oil boom. Oil pays the taxes there, and keeps individual rates low, but the overall tax revenues per person high. Are you saying that we should have high taxes per resident in other states as well, since high taxes are good for the state?
North Dakota is a great example of a HIGH TAX state, if you look at how much tax revenue the state has to spend on each resident due to the oil boom. Alas, the oil boom won’t last forever.

Might as well blame them. The current president has had fours years of blaming the prior republican president and he slid into office on that mantra.

Why wouldn’t he blame you-know-who? Does the truth hurt?

The truth should hurt liberals more. At what point in time does he suck it up, and take responsibility? Oh yea, that is right, the anointed one doesn’t know how to do that, because he can do no wrong.

a 7% rise in a stock is much different than 7% earnings. Try again.

problem in the area from what I have heard : no place to live, high food cost, bad smell from overlaoded sewer system. If pizza delivery get high wages and sign on bonus what does that say about livin expenses. I had applied for a fedex job last year I han’t taked the physical or drug test and they asked if I wanted to go to Minot for $20 per hour Yes Menards is paying better than they do elsewhere but if cost of living is so high you may end up behind come payday

Mike, there are individuals that dislike everything, they just think it is cute to push the dislike button, or just dislike you and your previous posts. Don’t worry you will still sleep well tonight.

I’m sure I’d be fired up every Monday morning knowing I was flying out to Minot, North Dakota to spend the week working at Menards.

The job market in Minot, Williston, and elsewhere in northwestern North Dakota is what happens when you let the market forces have their way and keep government and unions out of the way. There are plenty of jobs and all paying good wages. In addition, employers there should realize that they can’t take their employees for granted. There are plenty of opportunities down the street if something isn’t to the employee’s liking. Duluth can learn a lesson from our neighbors to the west.

Yes, all Dulluth needs is to discover oil and then the DFL people can take the credit as well as the Republicants in ND.

bob, sounds like a good idea to me, but I think the big boys only listen to the out-of-town firms that they pay a bazillion dollars to.

If you’re flush with oil money, ANY market (“free” or otherwise) will appear to be great!

Ask Republican states like Tennessee, Louisiana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Alabama how their “free” markets are doing. Those are the poorest states in the country.
