Column – In nixing Romney, voters rejected radicalism

If, as some insist, President Obama was born in Kenya, then surely Mitt Romney was born on another planet. Will his spacey delusions never end? Continue Reading

Writing in The Wall Street Journal this week, former Congressional Committee Chairmen Chris Cox and Bill Archer note that even if the government confiscated the entire adjusted gross income of every individual and corporation in America, it still wouldn’t cover U.S. entitlement obligations. Yet the first order of business according to President Obama, Senator Reid and Mr. Buffett is not to reform entitlements or rein in spending but to raise tax rates? You might as well try bailing out the Pacific Ocean with a teaspoon.
As for the current fiscal cliff negotiations, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that raising the top marginal tax rate to 39.6% – as Obama proposes – would generate approximately $70 billion a year. That’s not an inconsequential sum. But it won’t come close to fixing this year’s $1.1-trillion federal budget deficit. Where would we get the other $1.03 trillion?

I thank you, Mike, for bringing this Wall Street Journal piece to everyone’s attention. As Cox and Archer point out, without radical reform the United States won’t even be able to borrow enough money to meet future Medicare and Social Security obligations, let alone pay for them. Romney and Ryan were the only ones in this campaign to even begin talking about real and innovative solutions to the problem, while Obama simply played the class warfare card and promised a gullible and uninformed American public that taxing “rich folks just a little more” would solve everything. I suppose that actually doing something about reforming entitlements, reducing the size of government and curbing federal spending—all themes of the Romney-Ryan campaign and all very much needed—are just examples of what Mr. Dahlman calls the “looney-tune extreme right.”
These problems are very, very real and the American public had a chance last month to elect someone who might actually do something to right the ship. Instead, we re-elected someone whose plan is tantamount to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Mr. Dahlman, I won’t be one who will accuse you of being “nasty.” I would accuse you of thinking like a child, but that wouldn’t be fair to children.
Echo Press readers: if you would like to read the piece Mike referenced, just Google “Cox and Archer Wall Street Journal” and you will find it.

Atta boy Dennis.
Way to promote that post-partisanship thingy.
Do you really not see that if you’re looking for the embodiment of radicalism you can just look in the mirror?

I’m trying to wrap my head around the author’s apparent attempt to link Romney with radicalism and Obama with moderantism. Obama is just as guilty of elitism, playing a chameleon, ignoring the ridiculous statements of his supporters, and not having a plan for almost 4 years. Sorry, but Romney was no radical, especially not a right-wing radical. This is the guy who was governor of one of the most liberal states in the country. You don’t get to be governor of Massachusetts by being a right-wing radical. Romney’s issue was that he didn’t push hard enough against Obama or distinguish himself enough from Obama. I really think it is you, Mr. Dalman, and not Mitt Romney who needs to take a reality pill.

The election is over. Get to work, Mr. Obama. Why go the Philly to make your case? The voting machines have done their job. Go sell your plan to those who are waiting to debate it. Unless, of course, you aren’t able to sell it to intelligent minds vs your base that can be bought. Some people work for a living and some vote for a living.
Hot debate. What do you think?

It is all too obvious that Mr. Dalman is more attuned to partisan politics than what is best for our country. Pure lunacy! America reelected an extreme left-wing partisan hack who could not care less for the welfare of America. It’s all about his agenda, come hell or high water …. Too many Americans are simpletons.
