It never ceases to amaze me how people will pick up and move 1500 or 2500 miles, leave their jobs and come to the ND gold rush with no discernable job skills for the work being performed. You don’t become employable in this industry just because you show up! Sure, roustabouts are often hired with little or no training, but come on, there are less than 200 rigs working in the Bakken.
Almost any other oil field related work requires a modicum of training and skill level. You don’t leave the farm after milking cows and bucking hay for years and wander off to Hollywood expecting to be even an extra in a movie, let alone a skilled actor. Why is this any different? Well, because folks nowadays have this entitlement mentality that if it doesn’t work out then the tax payers will take care of them…..hence the re-election of the biggest enabler this country has ever known. Vote for me and I’ll give you somebody elses hard earned money…..remember in 2007 where he told Joe the Plumber he’d like to share the wealth. Not his mind you, but the makers in this country!
Stay healthy you guys, a little notoriety might get you a job after all. Good luck!
GOT BAKKEN? Got a job?
