I wouldn’t worry about refusing the sale. I’m quite confident that noboby will be buying the city’s ‘ongoing liability’ for $175,000. Maybe the city can stick several million into the building and turn it into an outreach center for those in public office confused about how best to responsibly spend the public’s money in a depressed economy.

Why no mention of Councilor Fosle’s comments that came at the same time?

Just another project the government will end up wasting money on. Is the firehall worth borrowing money from China so we can “preserve” it? Dump the building and be done with it. Let the new owner decide what they want to do with it. Good gosh….maybe someone will buy it up and replace the hall with a high end residence. They would then pay a hefty tax bill that would generate revenue for the city. But that would make too much sense. Someone will claim that Bob Dylan stopped by to use the restroom eons ago. And the government money will then shower the building in money to fix it up. Hey Sharla….ding ding ding…..how about fixing our streets?

Holy Crap! You need to start building the tax roll by stimulating private investment!! Start fixing our infrastructure and stop looking to the past. Sell it.
