Sorry, Grover; CEOs say, ‘Cut a deal’
November 20, 2012 at 3:30 pm in Grand Forks Herald
Republicans Rick Berg, John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer should follow the lead of the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council by supporting a grand bargain, thereby putting America first, North Dakota second and Grover Norquist, if he’s on the list at all, a very distant third. Continue Reading

Ah, Cramer will not take office until next year so can not vote on anything yet. It would be Conrad who can vote at this time.

It would be good to see Republicans put America instead of Grover first.

I wonder how many republicants get “precious entitlements”? You know, like medicare, medicaid, SSI, SSDI, VA medical, etc, etc, etc. The only “bald-faced lie” is the one being told by YOU…because the President and other dem leaders are well prepared to cut ‘entitlements’ (lovely Faux news, demonizing buzz word) spending and have stated so…repeatedly. The problem is EVERYONE has to be prepared to sacrifice. The republicants who have pledged to their fuhrer (grover) have sealed their fate as stiff necked, uncompromising ideologues. The real world does not work that way. Its an infantile, petulant position.

Petey, the tax increases need to be put in perspective. Even if ever tax increase proposed by President Obama is adopted there still need to be spending cuts equal to nine (9) times the amount of additional tax revenue that will be generated. To suggest that either party has indicated a willingness to make those cuts is not credible.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Isn’t the Grove from the Muppets the one who lives in a garbage can……..Now that’s a very appropriate place for this Grover and his anti patriotism pledge……….Go Grover go…And take the rest of the fox party in there with you…

Compromise? Yes, in the form of substantial tax code reform and significant spending cuts. Personally I favor an elimination of all deductions, credits and exemptions and imposition of gradually progressive tax rates (the United States already has the most progressive income tax structure in the world). What this article glosses over however is the fact that even the tax increases proposed by President Obama are meaningless without substantial spending cuts. Last year’s budget deficit was approximately 1 trillion dollars. The proposed tax increases would cover less than ten percent of that amount. Simply raising taxes on a small segment of the population just for the purpose of raising taxes is not a solution nor is it a compromise. Unless the tax increases are coupled with spending cuts that will eliminate the annual deficit the increases wouldn’t be a compromise but would simply be punitive action intended to make people feel better because congress finally “taxed the rich”. “Tax the rich” is a great slogan, but it is meaningless if it fails to move us toward a balanced budget.

You are complaining that projected cuts in budgets are not big enough? But Joe, they haven’t even been proposed yet. You have no way of knowing what and how much will be put on the table by Dems or Republicans. So basically what you have said is all hyperbole.

How about that oath to defend the COTUS? Isn’t that a little more important than one to a plutocrat?

Grover and Karl-now there’s a pair to draw too. If they were Democrats I would switch parties. Thanks be that their base of rich old white men is dying out. America can finally start repairing itself from the Bush years without republicans throwing sand in the gears….People are very tired of the republican obstructionists and showed it last election-will they learn and adapt? I doubt it…It’s just not who they are…

Ignorance was signing the pledge. It is not immoral to admit that signing it was wrong.

Imagine that the yrs. of tax cuts for the rich had not happened. If rates comparable to those under Eisenhower were in effect for the last 50 yrs. we would be flush & Medicare/Medicaid/S.S. would be solvent. Conservative right wing forces have been intent on strangling any social programs that deal with the fallout from a “social Darwinist” capitalist system. Roosevelt understood the need to fund a safety net in the face of a business class that would stop at nothing to exploit the working class. Deficits mount geometrically when taxes are not paid to cover the social costs of a free enterprise economy. Norquist/Rove are intent on returning the US to an 1890s robber baron economy.
