STYLE WISE: Spandex: A privilege or a right?

Trends in fashion are constantly evolving. Some only last for a season, while others manage to hold on for years. But lately, according to some, the leggings trend has started becoming a distraction. Continue Reading

Chuckle. Just make the girls with leggings stand outside in the cold for a couple of hours and then have to walk home. That would cure much of the foolishness.

Back in the 60′s and early 70′s the girls at South had to wear dresses because they had a dumb dress code about them not wearing jeans. Some would wear jeans to scholl and then change, but the “Cool” girls would just wear the dress iven in sub zero temps…..My sister tells me her legs are usually the first to get cold in cold weather….much like my hands and ears from being too cool to wear gloves or cap…..How I survived my own dumb assed kid ideas is a wonder…

Shocked that a woman would be that unaware of the distraction that tite clothing can be to a teen boy.

Kinda makes you wonder how in todays society of sexual harrasment lawsuits and all that, why a school would risk a teenagers hormones kicking in because teenage girls show off what they got.
If school is supposed to just be about learning, maybe banning mini skirts and skin tight clothing is actually a good idea.
That or make them sign a waiver saying they wont sue the school because some guy got all hot staring at that thang and walked up and smacked it.
Hot debate. What do you think?

…yeah right capt — about the same time you have to sign a waiver exonerating any hungry homeless person who gropes you thinking there’s a banana in your pocket!

” This is not a new situation. Whether it was mini-skirts or low-cut shirts, high school students have always pushed the envelope in the name of fashion, and teachers, principals and parents have always pushed back in the name of decency. ”
Frankly, this IS a “new situation”. Some young ladies wear these things so tight, they are literally a second skin. Most are clearly worn, SANS underwear. As a man, I am not complaining. That said, I dont think high school students need to be able to see a female vulva, on full display…day in, day out. This just MIGHT be a minor distraction for the young (and not so young) males.

It’s really not a new situation. Skin tight clothing has been cycling in and out of fashion for a very long time. I’m not a fan of the “leggings as pants” trend, but really it’s just a different variation on an old theme.

Oh, good. Teen girls. I thought runners and cyclists were gonna be fighting the battle of the bulge in here. I’ll show myself out.

I don’t know if it was SNL or some movie where they did a spoof on some ballet dancer with a cod piece that made it on stage before you saw the dancer……..The only ballet I’ve ever seen was the “Nutcracker” and there was a whole lot of nut displayed on that cracker. Not much left to the imagination with some of those dancers

As the step-parent of a 14 year old freshman who plays volleyball, I have to ask, why is there so much hype about yoga pants, leggings etc, when there is ZERO concern for the athletic uniforms? I noticed while attending the kid’s volleyball games this fall that the bottoms of their uniform is far more revealing than leggings. Some of the girls had more than their legs coming out of the legholes of their spanks. I felt sorry for the girls, they’re in their teens, an already awkward stage, they love the game but are forced to wear something that exacerbates their awkwardness because the only other option is not to play. So in my logical mind, they should either be fair across the board about the dress code both in the classroom and in athletics – or drop the leggings rants.

I would really like a discussion about boys walking around with their underwear hanging out and their too large pants down to their knees. Seriously, if we talk about one, we need to address the other.

First off……How that ever became a popular style in the first place really boggles the mind. One look and you can’t help but honk, “Man that must be uncomfortable”. Second….That’s still something foolish youngsters are doing? I thought they had to finally come to their senses on that one because I haven’t seen it for quite some time

Plumbers don’t start with the but crack showing. I don’t know if I’d want a pre but crack doing any thing with plumbing. I’m thinking very leaky pipes indeed

20 yrs. ago I attended a Mpls. gang task force seminar. We were told by Mpls. detectives the hanging pants were a sign between gang members that the weight of the gun they were packing was indicated by their pants being dragged down. IOW it was a self preservation act by gang members. How sad that we have created such conditions in the ghettos that children resort to this behavior to stay alive. Middle class white kids imitating this dress style don’t have a clue about what life is really like for the poor.

Racial comments can run both ways, Spearman. Maybe the middle class white kids think they have a Saturday Night Special in their pants when all they have is a pee-shooter.

Spandex is legal clothing.
Therefore, the wearing of spandex is an issue for discussion between the child and the parent(s).
Noone else should have a vote.

You know, we shouldn’t just talk about the kids. I once saw a man probably in his late 60s who looked like his water was about to break wearing a Speedo. Now that was a sight not to behold!
