Oh man — look out for the Fighting Sioux Affordable Care Act with a moratorium on divorce as a compulsory part of it!

I understand that most conservatives were against the Affordable Care Act, but if it comes down to more centralized control in DC or more centralized control in Bismarck, I think most North Dakotans would prefer to retain some control here in our state. I don’t understand why Dalrymple is quoted as saying we’re not planning on moving forward. What benefit could there be in relinquishing total control to the feds instead of taking more responsibility for implementation at the state level?

The advantage would be that Dalrymple would not be publically embarrassed when the departments he is in charge of are found to be totally incapable of actually doing an exchange at least on time and on budget.
It was doubtful if Dalrymple could get an exchange done when the special session met a year ago, today, there is no question, he can’t get it done on time to be operational in a year.
So his only real option is to hope the feds who have continual bent over backwards to cooperate with uncooperative states will do the actual exchange and then hand it to him and say have a nice day.

Much larger pool of people. North Dakota is a small population state. A larger pool gives more negotiation power and spreads out the costs more.

What?? Al Carlson is actually going to attempt some work this year vs two years ago??? Good then maybe we won’t have hearings sponsored by Bette Grande on whether or not the State should force people with irreconcilable differences should stay married.
Here is to hoping some real work gets done vs the dog and pony show of two years ago.

It’s probably going to be the same company we paid a half million for financial projections, they were pretty close, only missed by a billion and a half.

The genius of our system is the bicameral nature of our legislature. The trouble is it means 10,000 people in the Fargo metroplex (tongue squarely in cheek) get to decide what the rest of us have to put up with.
The man is reprobate. When he didn’t get his way during the Republican convention he had a public meltdown worthy of a drag queen. I wonder what his response will be to not getting his way this time?

Your republicans are in the ultimate catch 22. They can fight obama care and not do anything which will mean the federal government will be in charge of this market place. Or they can accept obama care and keep state control of the marketplace. Which is better for the party fighting obamacare or keeping local control?

ND republicans made the fatal (and ignorant) assumption that the ACA would be repealed or overturned in the Supreme Court rather than plan for multiple options and they were wrong. They could have had a sufficient plan in place (they had almost 4 years to do so), but sat on their hands and now may have their choices taken away from them. They just did not do their job, plain and simple.

Right on. In addition, they had absolutely convinced themselves that Obama was going to lose the election and that Romney would make the ACA go away. Now they must face the consequences of that short-sightedness.

I would add that I did vote for some, but not all, of the Republicans in my district when they said they would support a state exchange but who are these other Republicans like Carlson who sat on his hands and who voted for them? Where are the state’s rights wing of the Republican party? Were the voters so blinded by anger at the ACA they didn’t realize what they were doing?

It’s time to get on the train and develop a care system or let the federal government impose one on the state of ND. It’s time for the GOP to stop pouting over loosing the election and start doing something good for the average citizen. Health care coverage is a good thing not an evil to be feared.

North Dakota again has a GOP in Charge at least Berg is Gone. At least they have a somewhat say in DC with Heidi H. The GOP is a stick their head in the sand and hope everything goes away. Instead of fighting agaist everything try getting along the gop is mad because they didn’t get their way well the people spoke in other states and this is what they want. get over it that what the Dems were told.
