The article about South Dakota’s petition to secede as it appeared in The Dickinson Press is grossly lacking in facts. Over the telephone, I tried to explain that 10,000 North Dakotans had, also, signed a petition of cessation. “Why wasn’t this reported?” I asked. The reporter told me that it’s because South Dakota petition cessation first. Want to try again?
North Dakota’s petition, which contains over 10,000 signatures, twice South Dakota’s, was initiated on November 10 while South Dakota’s wasn’t petition until the next day. Both follow the first filing in the state by Louisiana which has already exceeded the required number of 25,000 signatures. So has Texas, Florida, and a few other states. What this means is that the President’s office will, now, respond to the petition. Both North and South Dakota have weeks left to reach 25,000 signatures. The Press also failed to report that all 50 states are petitioning.
I doubt, under existing law, that any secession petitions will be accepted by our government. Still, it is an interesting time in history. It’s also a good time for The Dickinson Press to adopt a new policy. . .try listening to newsleads from ordinary folk!

But, but, but Jack, you are getting upset that the press, either the local or national press, would purposely leave out facts like you described? Come on man, it’s called editorial license, editing for time or space or it just doesn’t tell the story the way we want it if you include all the facts and let people decide for themselves? Silly, that’s why they have editors to sort out what’s relevant and what’s not….to them!
The Associated Press (aka Absolutely Pathetic) is the clearing house for the Marist/Socialist news organizations to rely on for their stories because they are too lazy to do their own fact finding. Easier to just let someone else do the hard work and then they take the credit for a so-called original story line. Again, having a position in life as opposed to having a job!
But I wll warn people! Signing one of these petitions is self defeating. You are painting a bullseye on your back for the powers in charge to target you for what ever reason they seem appropriate! Consider yourselves duly warned!
