Iceland consider name change to seem more inviting, less icy

GRAND FORKS – Remember when some people in North Dakota suggested dropping “North” and changing the name to just Dakota as a way to make the place seem warmer and more inviting? Continue Reading

I just want to correct a small error in this article: the mention of “spring solstice.” The solstices refer to the two times in the year when the sun (Sol) stands still, that is stops in its apparent motion toward or away from the Equator. That happens on June 21st and December 21st or thereabouts. The first days of spring and fall, in March and September, are called the equinoxes: days of”equal night,” when day and night are 12 hours long everywhere.
Back on topic, if Iceland changes its name then that name will available and North Dakota could take it! Just a thought.

You want to correct a small error? How about that this article is borderline fictitious in nature? This is a repost of a news article on USA today which utterly butchered the original story.
The government is NOT looking into changing the name of the country? Even if they were, would anyone honestly think that using an Internet survey to find the best name would be a good idea? I mean, Niceland? Yeah, it’s cute and all but we’re talking about an official name for a country, here.
What this is, is nothing more than a silly survey made by a tourist board, which is done mostly in jest, but winning entries might find their name used in advertisement campaigns (“Visit Iceland because it’s Niceland” or some silly stuff like that).
It’s true that stupidity spreads, if other news sources are willing to repost inaccurate articles without doing the unnecessary fact checks.
