It appears that the only good news about this article is that, so far, nobody is blaming Jim Carlson or the Last Place on Earth for this fine business to be closing.

A shame. I liked browsing there.
I guess this opens up another venue for a downtown bar though, right? Cuz we need more of those…

Hey wait!!! We are told by Obama the the average person is doing just fine (his words in a press conferrence). We are also told that the countrys’ economy is rebounding nicely due to Obamas plans and programs. But then we are told ““Furniture sales are way down,” Pelinka said. “The whole country is feeling the pinch. Everybody’s struggling, People aren’t spending money the way they used to. And the furniture industry hasn’t come back.” This, people, is a durable goods industry and durable goods are the backbone of any economic measure. If people aren’t buying durable goods it is an indication that people are just getting by. Could it be we are being fed a line of bull dung by certain people, politicians in particular?

Maybe it doesn’t fit in the Creative Corridor. Only hipsters need apply.

This is really sad news. My diningroom ‘corner cabinette’ and deacon’s bench and dining room solid oak table & chair set are from there and my living room TV stand/cabinet are from Saw Mill. What will I do next time I want to buy a piece of furniture?

It’s easy to just blame the economy. I saw a pantry like cabinet there that I thought would be perfect for storage in my dining room. The owner gave me his business card with the cabinet dimensions & the price so I could go measure the space & make sure it would fit. When I returned the next day to purchase the cabinet the price had gone up, significantly. I showed him the card he gave me with the price he had written on it and his response was “prices change with the market”. I guess my enthusiasm at finding a cabinet for my odd spot created a market demand. Even now, the article states there will be no liquidation of inventory. So maybe his business practice was a factor too.
