Dear North Dakota, I have received your petition to secede from the United States and have forwarded it to Congress who will act on it with their usual speed.
All military bases in North Dakota will be closed and personnel relocated to bases in the United States, except for a contingency left to guard the North Dakota-US Border.
Any North Dakota citizen holding a US passport is required to surrender it immediately. Entry into the US will require a valid North Dakota passport. Anyone staying longer than two weeks will have to obtain a visa.
Funding for highways, transportation, bridges, infrastructure, education and medical facilities will cease immediately.
Your representatives to the US Congress are ordered to leave Washington as soon as possible.
All US licenses to do business are revoked.
The FAA will no longer operate at your airports and air traffic controllers are terminated.
All Federal Civil Service employees in the country of North Dakota are terminated.
The FCC no longer operates so you will be responsible for licensing your own telephone, radio, television and Internet providers.
Anyone receiving payments for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Disability will have to reapply and Congress will decide if foreigners are allowed to receive payments from the US Govt.
Good luck.

While i think the whole idea of breaking away is a silly notion, one thing that i do believe is that we need to monitor our resources very closely.
I do not trust a man running a wealth redistribution plan at the federal level and i dont for one second believe he wouldnt find a way to divert ND funds to help pay for the nations Social programs.
When you are part of one of the two states in the nation not burdened by debt you need to pay attention to legislation being passed etc. that may be used against you.
Maybe i’m wrong but only a fool would not keep their guard up.

We’ve been over this. Historically, ND receives more in federal spending than it pays in federal taxes.
That is, redistribution unquestionably benefits North Dakota.

You would think so but I am not sure. At least one surplus base desperately searching for a mission & an economy still largely dependent on farm subsidies.
When we said ND got more than it gave we are not talking by a few dollars, we are talking tens of millions annually. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out when the numbers are released.
Remember: despite everything we are still far short of a million people. Most tax revenue comes from people, not companies.

Let them blather Katie, in the end they were 100% wrong on their predictions this election cycle.
They were vociferous in their belief that the gains of 2010 were just the beginning. They were certain America had had enough of a black muslim foreign born citizen occupying the White House.
What did they get: defeated by an electoral vote margin they haven’t won by in 25 years as well as loses in both the House of Representatives (substantial loses there) and the Senate.
Since not just one (Ruth Bader Ginsberg), but as many as three Supreme Court Justices will retire over the next four years, the effects of this election will be very far reaching. Rather than having Roe v Wade overturned it will be reaffirmed and gay marriage will be legalized. Any attempt to overturn Obamacare will also fail.
Elections have consequences and the GOP will definitely feel the consequences of their anglocentric policies.
I hope they learn to moderate their views and take their responsibility to represent their constituents seriously, otherwise their time in the wilderness will be longer than they care to admit.

You know what.. I define a ‘True American’ that is someone that is for America as a whole. Because America was founded on the principle that ‘All men are created equal’. Unfortunately it has taken wars and common sense for us to realize that the statement didn’t mean only White Heterosexual Males.
America is the great experiment that has done something right in this world in my honest opinion. Once you start labeling people, you in your own become UN-American. Because this is a country of ‘By the people and for the people.’ Not just ‘a group of people’.

During the election I had already made up my mind that Romney wouldn’t cut it, when one of his chief advisors sealed the deal. He was on Fox News decrying the treatment Israel was getting at the hands of the Obama administration when he said that if Obama won re-election he was moving to Israel because he was a Jew first.
This was a senior advisor; not a talking head. Someone who undoubtedly had a position in the White House had Romney won.
What hypocrisy. Could you imagine if Valerie Jarrett, one of the Big O’s closest advisors & a Jew had said she was a Jew first? The birthed crowd would have had a meltdown.

Jake: the part you are missing is that by maintaining an anglocentric campaign style, in an attempt to win the battle they may have lost the culture war. At the very least they set it back 25 years. The Big O is going to get between 1-3 Supreme Court nominees. Instead of overturning Roe v Wade, Romney’s failure to count will now result in it being caudified for another generation. Gay marriage is a shoe in & dependent benefits for same sex partners of service members will be policy before the last American is out of Afghanistan.
There simply not enough angry white guys to win elections anymore. It is just that simple.
Since the average Hispanic is Catholic, & virulently pro life, common sense would dictate passing the Dream Act (it is going to happen regardless so you might as well get some credit for it) & pulling at least 40% of the brown vote to the right. Most Hispanics are lower middle class & work their back sides off. Just the type of people the GOP used to call “the silent majority.”

Jake what are you talking about? The Dream act is a pathway to citizenship for illegals brought here as children by their parents. 80% – 90% of Hispanics are for it. You will not capture the 40% of the Hispanic vote you need to get elected without it.
As I said, Hispanics are Catholic. They are pro life. They are not big on gay rights (machismo) but that is secondary. Give them comprehensive immigration reform & you have the next President. Don’t & you will fail.
This isn’t “new math” or even fractions. Simple addition is all you need

Glen, Glen, Glen…..Where have you heard such a thing? That the “only reason” you’re against Obama is race? It’s not the only reason, bit the implications have been there before he even sat in the chair for one day. The severe right played the reace card in many ways to encourage so much disrespect and basic hate towards this president from the beginning. If you weren’t so caught up in hearing what you want to hear from the right you’d realize that the right never gave him a chance from before day one….No othe president has been given so little respect prior to even doing anything. So if not race then what? Because he was a community organizer which apparently is a bad thing to most on the right since the poor are that way because they choose to be poor?
To ignore the race baiting is basically just denial. Most of this over reaction to this is because there really is a lot of people on the right who just go ape over a black man in the White House.
Of course the best deflection for bigotry is to accuse others of seeing bigotry as if it really doesn’t exist and is an unfair label…..There are those who hats him as they did Clinton because they are very smart, charismatic, and have real leadership skills that they can’t control. In Clinton’s case they found a stained dress to try to bring him down. With Obama they’ve tried to find some other stain that will work, but nothing does so race is all they can fall back on.

Harry Reid said that he would raise the debt limit and it has been reported that he is already moving to block opposition in the Senate. We essentially have the same government, albeit a few new faces, that we have had for the past 20 odd years. The Fed will continue to print money, and the politicians will create new debt for the foreseeable future. I see a day when the federal government will be so mired in debt that wealthy states will find out they can ignore federal edicts, and Washington won’t have the money to fight off the intransigent state governments, let alone meet all of the promised liabilities of maintaining the empire, funding the baby boomer’s retirements, and providing health care for all. I think that a gradual shift towards something resembling a confederation of states is actually not that far off, and only dependant on how long the Democrats and Republicans can keep kicking the can down the road. So a bit of advice to the secessionists from Sun Tzu; “If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by.”

No problem maverick. I don’t think that we are going to fall off a cliff either, but I do believe that we are in for a shift downward in our standard of living driven by the enormous debt that both political parties have put us into. This kind of spending is unsustainable, and already Moody’s, the S&P, and Fitch are talking about another US credit rating downgrade. Eventually a downgrade could trigger a panic selloff of bonds, forcing the Fed to buy them with printed money. More money in the system will cause inflation and erosion of the value of your savings and investments.

I look forward to seeing how many people on here keep the same views over the next 4 years.
Its easy to sit back and defend something that sounds good when its affects havent hit your house yet.
Lets see how manyt people are on here defending Obamas policies when you lose your job because your employer cant afford to keep you and pay additional taxes and Health care insurance for you.
You will sit there today and say its a bunch of bull, but its already been said it will happen by the very people who will be doing it.
The owners of companies arent going to accept losses, they will just lose people.
See you all in 4 years
at least the ones who will be able to still afford internet.

Hell Cap…If you keep getting so stressed out about this it might be you who goes first….Taking a dirt nap. All that stress will put you under. He’s not the enemy…He’s smart, and if the Republicans stop playing their little power games there’s a very good chance this can pull together. This didn’t happen over night, and there’s a lot of blame down the line on both parties, but none of that fixes anything.
You want to through anything that helps people in the crapper, but yet we have had for a very long time and over inflated budget for the military, and a damn drug war that’s also very over inflated because we can’t look at decriminalizing the lesser drugs and freeing up some of those war efforts. In fact if pot was actually legalized so it could be taxed it would be a big hit against the cartels, and a big increase in sales tax.
There’s just so damn many white elephants that they hang on to that just keeps costing more and more. What’s really needed is a bout of logic…..I know that’s a tough sell in the political world, but long over due….
