‘Aliens, Immigrants and Other Evildoers’ presented Wednesday

Performance co-sponsored by Minnesota West Culture Corner, St. Mary’s, NCIC
WORTHINGTON If the Pilgrims landed illegally on U.S. shores as undocumented immigrants, why weren’t they deported? Continue Reading

Worthington, Nobles county, and Minnesota for that matter bends over backwards for these people . Yet we are portrayed as haters when we want the rule of law followed.
Comparing the Pilgrims to what’s happening with our borders today is pathetic and disgusting at best.
Maybe this one man should be titled “Illegal Aliens, Illegal Immigrants and other Evildoers”, and the discussion afterward could be about the impact ILLEGAL imigration has on our communities. Maybe the Culture Corner and St. Mary’s should spend their time and energy on helping those who are standing in line trying come here legally.

Amy Klobuchar said today that many Republicans in Washington want immigration reform and that they brought it up to her.
Across the country, rigid Republicans were replaced with more moderate candidates who are better able to get results.
Immigration reform is on the table.
Better check Fox News to find out how you fall in line with your party.

Hows that Pat? The majority of those illegals coming across the borders are really no difference for the exception of drug Cartels using some people to carry drugs across to pay for their way, and some don’t realize until they arrive at their destination. You can’t hardly blame these drug dealers because the US is the biggest user of drugs in the world, and there is always someone willing to make a pile of cash. Look what we did to the Native Americans? Does the trail of tears have any meaning? We stole Native American lands, and murdered them as well. We came up with laws against Asians the same culture that helped to shape our railroads. This country enslaved Blacks then made laws forbidding Blacks form using the same restrooms or drinking fountains as whites and they were illegally brought here by white slave runners. Even when the Blacks became American citizens they were still treated badly. Ask the American corporations why they hire illegals and it all points to the bottom line. Who takes all the crappy jobs American citizens don’t want? Look what happened when Alabama, and Georgia made state laws that targeted Illegals. Farmers lost millions because no American citizens came to work the fields in 110 degree weather after the illegals fled the state. They pulled their kids out of school, and hundreds of positions in the turkey and poutry plants caused a shut down at the plants until they could find workers. I laugh when I hear some people say illegals are stealing our jobs! You sure didn’t see any lines of applicants at the poutry plants or farm fields.

This country has \ is not perfect but it’s the best we have and we try to make it better. Illegal immigration doesn’t make it better no matter how you spin it! I think your perception is distorted so here is some actual fact history of how it happened here:
1983 the pig company in Worthington shut the plant down for no apparent reason. The pay was $12-$15 an hour with real good benefits. They were also known to be making the best profits of all the plants in their area. So why? Well the meat packing industry knew that if they could use a transient work force they could avoid paying decent wages. Avoid the unions. Avoid a lot of health care cost, as most workers didn’t have family with them and hopefully they didn’t stay long enough to qualify anyway. That held true for paid vacations too. You get the picture. They operated in this manner earlier in there history. Some months later they reopened at $5 an hour. Now we know why! Greed! This moved them from best profits to elite profits. The union was fired!! A lot of the workers left town but some stayed. Mostly the plan then was to recruit from the southern border. They did that quite successfully. The union did come back but to this day is a company puppet union. They had their cheap labor and the citizen workers were and are oppressed. Of course the whole community suffers from these unethical, undesirable and illegal actions. Now many, many years later the wages are not back to what they were; Think Of The Oppression The Community Has Suffered Over All Those Years! What is the company planning now? Probably thinking it might be time for more bus loads of $5 an hour workers from the border. Hey, if they did it to their fellow citizens they’ll sure do it to the workers here now! Why do you think they want the border to stay open so bad? Now it took the company a few years to get all these immigrant workers here. So if the immigrant labor were shut off they would have to recruit the legal workers back. So Just Because They Aren’t Banging On The Door The Next Day Don’t Think They Wouldn’t Come Back. After all they were doing these jobs before wrongful immigration. These are in no way jobs the Americans don’t want. They are jobs the Americans were cheated out of! This has \ is being repeated thousands of times all over the country! This doesn’t even touch on the many other costs of illegal \ wrongful immigration, such as crime\incarceration, social services, education, healthcare, and on and on it goes! This is no small crime they are committing; it is a huge violation of the U.S. citizen and country!!! So, NO Amnesty!!!

merc, you are comparing apples to oranges. Did the US govt. screw over the American Indians, absolutley….but that has nothing to do with securing our border and stopping the infux of uneducated, non-skilled, workers and takers. There are people waiting in line to come to our country LEGALLY who have alot to offer. This type of immigration/immigrants is who we should be supporting.
Check out the Nobles Co. jail inmate list, stop at the clinic or family services any given day, look at the classroom sizes at Prairie and see what happens to communities like Worthington.
merc, would you be willing to answer a question honestly?…Do you support open borders and do you support amnesty for those here illegally?

pat e — I expect to see you at the theater tomorrow night. It will be an opportunity for you to raise all your issues with someone who knows something about it! You can suggest the new title for the presentation at the same time.
If you don’t show up, to try to raise your concerns or to perhaps be more enlightened, I don’t see where you should be allowed to criticize anyone’s actions or intentions down the road.

I support the DREAM Act, effective border control, reduce the red tape to enter legally, and harsher penalities for companies that target and employ illegal immigrants.

merc, surprisingly we are pretty darn close in agreeing about what should be done.
First, before anything else the border needs to be secured..period. Use the military if needed.
Second, huge fine$ for companies that hire illegals. No jobs available, no reason to be here ilegally. That should get alot of the illegal immigrants to go back on their own.
Third, part of the red tape to come here should be that you are somewhat educated and are learning English and are medically cleared.
Fourth, sorry eastender, I won’t be attending the “shame on you Worthington for not accepting illegal immigrants” show…but I will still stand up for the rule of law.

Ignorance is bliss. Gee, I re-read the article and didn’t see the subtitle you applied to the play’s name. Very clever. Not.
You have your chance to voice your opinion in an open, public forum. You’re choosing not to do so. As the minister says at the wedding to the assembled masses: “Speak now, or forever hold your peace.”
Are you afraid you might learn something new that would soften your hardline approach to immigration – or humanity in general? You’ll be missed.

“Third, part of the red tape to come here should be that you are somewhat educated and are learning English and are medically cleared.” Have to disagree with you on that. Education shouldn’t be something that gains enterance to the US. Most of the places they are leaving doesn’t have quality education to begin with, so how would they become educated? You seem that you want to cherry pick immigrants.
Statue of Liberty has it best engraved;
“”Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”"
To me, thats the America i’m proud to be a part of, the America that others want to come to, and why they do come.

merc. I’m not cherry picking immigrants at all. I’m talking about LEGAL immigrants waiting to come here. If a person is waiting to get their visa to come here legally, they should already be able to at least speak, read, & write enough English to function at a bare minimum on a daily basis. I have no problem with the numerous agencies we have to help them get better at this once they are here LEGALLY.
To compare ILLEGAL immigrants to the “huddled masses yearning to breathe free” that entered the USA through Ellis Island, is a slap in the face to all of their decendents. Yes, many of them didn’t speak or write English but the first thing they did was to assimilate into the AMERICAN culture and become workers and not takers.
I think Lady Liberty would agree with me on this one.

So its ok for the Ellis Island immigrants to not follow your rules of being educated and speak English but not any current immigrants that would seek to enter legally? You just contradicted yourself in 2 sentences.
And the Ellis Island immigrants didn’t assimilate immediately. It took a couple generations to assimilate. Just look at the real history of the 1800s. Irish weren’t accepted and treated much in the same way as hispanics are now. Thought to be cheaper labor, taking jobs, and causing crime. They were SEGREGATED…not assimilated. Just a quick internet search;

Sorry, but Lady Liberty accepts everyone that wants to come here. Maybe she isn’t the best profile pic for you since, you differ so much.

Appears to be working for ya….I’ve posted the date and been rebuffed.. That’s why the like dislike is not reliable. More sophisticated sites don’t use it. They usually only have a like button that way if you like it push the button, if you don’t you’ll have to write or option. No more red checks because you don’t like the name and didn’t read it.

This is the 21st century not the 1800s, I’m guessing someone immigrating here legally from Ireland today would probably speak some English…..and your still trying to avoid the subject of ILLEGAL immigration and it’s impact on communities, states, & our country.
BTW, I will be keeping my profile of Lady Liberty. This awesome gift given to us from France was to celebrate our success in building a democracy. We have always been the first country to help others in need but guess what, we are in need now. Need to fix the economy, need to protect our country, need to secure our children and grandchildrens future…there’s only so much room in the life boat before it capsizes too.

In 2012 for a citizen to support illegal, mass or chain immigration can only be characterized as self-abuse or at best self-destructive behaviour. Times change, what was good and needed in the 1800 hundreds is undesirable, un-needed, unethical, and financially degrading to the country today. A legal controlled and needed system might be desirable. Wait don’t we already have that? Lets use it!

“Times change, what was good and needed in the 1800 hundreds is undesirable, un-needed, unethical, and financially degrading to the country today”. Guess we should take down the Statue of Liberty then if times changed. Wouldn’t want that symbol up if all it is now is a lie.

The Statue of Liberty was not presented to the USA to be a lamp to ILLEGAL immigration. As I stated before, this was a gift to celebrate our democracy, how well it worked, and to be an example to other countries around the world.
merc, why is it that Mexico has some of the most secure southern borders and the harshest penalties for ILLEGAL immigration?
Even they know……
“A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.”

If it is causing this problem throw it out with the anchor baby law. Actually I’m not sure the French weren’t mocking us. They though we were foolish then, now they know for sure we are! Take her with a little salt.
