I have absolutely no problem providing the necessary resources IF AND ONLY IF there are performance benchmarks built into the system.
The “fiscal cliff” we are facing is an excellent example of these benchmarks in action. Does anyone really believe the President & Congress would be this willing to work together if the threat of voter uproar & recall elections were not in place?
Government can not be trusted to do the right thing. The SBHE’s distinct lack of leadership during the FS debacle (ignoring your constitutional mandates because you are afraid of funding cuts is not how you instill confidence in your organization) is a prime example.
That said, government can be MADE to do the right thing and this is one area where we can make that happen
