Public gives input on sports complexes
November 8, 2012 at 4:02 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
WORTHINGTON School and city officials, coaches, parents, students and various community members exchanged ideas for the future of Worthington’s athletic facilities during an open house Thursday evening at the Worthington High School cafeteria. Continue Reading

ISD 518 must think the people of Worthington all have money trees in there yards. They want a new High school which they don’t need. They want a new sports complex which also isn’t needed. The county also wants a new library. I just don’t see why they think they need all of this. Back in the early 1970′s there were graduating classes that were close to 400 kids. We are not even close to that now. We can’t afford it.

Wade, this was not a school district forum. This was a group consisting of members of city government, county government, chamber of commerce, school district, Minnesota West, and recreational group representatives as well as individual community members trying to get input from the community on different ideas. It is “information gathering”. It is entirely possible that nothing will be done, but what is wrong with getting public input? Trying to lay this on the school district is not fair, and really shows how little you know about what is happening. Commenting on something that you obviously know very little about is unfortunate.

George, I understand that this was not just the school district. But if the City is wanting to build this sports complex taxes will go up to pay for it. The school district wants a new school which will raise taxes. The county wants a new library which will raise taxes also . I can’t afford to have my taxes rasied higher. My property taxes are higher here in Worthington then they were when I lived in the Twin Cities. I grew up in Worthington and have seen alot of changes that weren’t always for the better in my opinion. I wasn’t able to attend the forum last night so you are right I don’t have all the facts but I do know this that sombody has to pay for it.

Thanks for clarifying your remarks, Wade. Your original post put the blame squarely on the school district for higher taxes. To respond to another point, though, there is no one that I have talked to associated with the school district that will tell me that they absolutely want a new school building. At this point they are still looking at options. I would hope that, as a tax paying citizen, you would appreciate the fact that options are being looked at. The school district does not have the authority to raise taxes to pay for this without voter approval, so any option that they recommend that requires the sale of bonds, will have to be voted on by the taxpayers. If the taxpayers do not agree with the recommendation, they will have the opportunity to vote it down.

Why don’t we buy out all the people between Oslo and Marine, north of Clary? Build them a house west of Crailsheim and send them packing. Build a SUPER SCHOOL!
Just a thought, more like a daydream!
In the old days, I had a neighbor who used a phrase when he referred to people who spoke about money they didn’t have, “You talk like a man with a paper -sshole.”
