Letter: Obama’s handling of tragedy brings pride
November 8, 2012 at 6:00 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
It was with a heavy heart I read, in the Marshall Independent editorial, through the long list of failures, mistakes, unfulfilled promises, etc. of President Barack Obama, all the while realizing that most of what was made to look like his failure to do his job was due in fact to the failure of those who should be helping to make them happen were instead being critics rejoicing and pointing fingers Continue Reading

Are you serious? Have you watched any of the coverage, even as this morning the victims of this storm are reeling. Remember Katrina….it was all Bush’s fault! Was hurricane Sandy obama’s fault..absolutley not but, obama makes a campaign/photo stop and he’s hailed as a hero and savior?
I’ll be praying allright, praying for the American people.

You guys need to accept that your guy lost. Get on with your lives.

Obama won 60 percent of the 18 to 29 year old vote and 52 percent of the 30-40 vote. He won 69 percent of the vote in big cities and 58 percent of the vote in mid-sized cities. He won 93 percent of the black vote and more than 70 percent of both the Asian vote and the Hispanic vote. He won over half of the female vote. And he won 76 percent of the gay, lesbian and bisexual vote.

Mitt Romney won the white vote, the male vote, the elderly vote, the small cities vote and the high-income vote.
The base of Democratic support in this country is expanding. The Republican base is shrinking, becoming more racially homogenous, more rural and older.
…
. If your idea of America’s power structure is rooted in a 1950s or even a 1920s sensibility, here’s an update: that America is no more.
Republicans are trying to hold back a storm surge of demographic change with a white picket fence. Good luck with that.

The blacks voted for obama because he is black. The Latinos voted for him because they want amnesty. Women voted for him because they want abortions and birth control, which should not have even been an issue, it had been settled years ago. The gays want to get married. Oh yeah, all the minorities voted for him because they don’t really want a job, they just want to make sure they keep their government assistance. Sounds to me like Romney won the wiser peoples vote and obama won the younger not as wise and the special interest vote. You have to admit that a 93% vote for color is probably not the wisest. Probably explains why the country is in decline! I’d rather have the wiser ones at the helm. I don’t care how many nonsensical ones they bussed to the polls.

Good stuff Deano and Ben! I’d like to see the percentage of people who approve obama’s handling of the hurricane tradegy now.
How will I handle the next four years eastender….like all true Americans, with dignity and honesty, unlike what we saw with your side in this election.
I also plan to watch the obama admin implode…the rats are already jumping ship.

It appears you and the rest of the Tea Party crowd are content to sit in your recliners and do absolutely NOTHING except hurl potshots at the President. Well, if that makes your life worth living, go for it.
I see very little “dignity” in your posts. And if you were truly “honest”, you’d realize that your guy lost and that you will have to make the best of what you consider to be a bad situation. YOUR side – Rove, Limbaugh, Fox News crew, etc., showed VERY LITTLE dignity. Don’t get us started on that. The election is OVER.
Some of us prefer to get involved. If the problems of the US are ever going to be resolved, it’s going to require support from everyone. Partisanship sunk the Republican boat in this election. There are lessons to be learned.

Ask President Obama next time you talk to him. Or do a little non-partisan research. I cannot speak for him and I won’t take the bait on your loaded question. I have better things to do than debate you.
And, YES, the country is better off in many ways… will still more to do. The President is the first to admit it.
For the millionth time, the election is OVER. Don’t waste the next 4 years of your life whining about “what could have been”.

Pick and choose, greatfan. There is a very long list of accomplishments but I’m not wasting time delineating it for you.
You obviously didn’t understand my comment. “the country is better off in many ways… with still more to do. The President is the first to admit it.” Did I say in ALL ways? Nope.
Regardless, the President was re-elected to do a job — with a majority of the popular and electoral votes. You can choose to continue to criticize, or you can get involved.
Just curious … what are you a “greatfan” of? It doesn’t seem like you find much to praise.

Simple question for those that didn’t vote Obama, Do you want him to succeed now that he has won a 2nd term? Or will you simply just point out, what you perceive as, his failure and enjoy your schadenfreude?

Unlike the Liberal hero Chris Matthews most people don’t enjoy the misery of others for political gain. So no, I don’t hope Obama fails because I do live here in the US and want to have a decent life. However I wouldn’t be shocked if things don’t work out as well as planned.

Or, getting 99% of the votes in the precinct in Philadelphia where the GOP observers were kicked out? Or, the fact that Obama LOST every state that required voter I.D.?” Truly honest,” would have had a very different result on November 6

“Do you want him to succeed now that he has won a 2nd term?” Answer; NO. I want our COUNTRY to succeed. His success, appears to be based on HIS agenda. I’m not 100% sure what HIS agenda is but, after the last four years, I don’t want anymore of it. We can’t afford it!
Hot debate. What do you think?

That’s exactly my point if obama succeeds the country loses and if obama fails the country wins. Simple as that. Hope it’s not so but it’s either that or he’s a lot dumber then he gets credit for.

Actually, my family prays for people like you who is blinded by partisanship, closed minded when it doesn’t benefit your candidate, and dismissive of facts that are covered up for political expediency. You too will suffer the consequences of the next four years, so in closing WE feel sorry for your families AND future generations that you have pretty much saddled with insurmountable debt. All with a single vote.

Wow. Incredible. You say no one here is miserable? What’s the word YOU would use to describe the mood, then? As you have said in the past, “LMFAOROTFL.” I don’t need your prayers. The President and the Congress need them. You also have NO idea what the next 4 years will hold, so don’t try to anticipate any “consequences”.
I leave “election oversight” to the authorities in each state. Your claim about Obama and states with Voter ID is, typically, a lie. Here are the facts:
Right wing claim: Obama Lost in Every State with a Voter Photo-ID Law
While it sounds incredible, even a casual check finds it is not true.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, there are 11 states with a Photo ID law on the books, with an additional 19 states with an ID requirement not tied to a Photo ID (utility bill, mortgage, etc).
The 11 states with a Photo ID requirement are:
New Hampshire — Obama won.
Louisiana
Georgia
Florida — Obama won
Tennessee
Indiana
Michigan — Obama won
Kansas
South Dakota
Idaho
Hawaii — Obama won.
Out of 11 states with Photo ID requirements, Obama carried 4 of them, a solid 22%.
Out of the 19 with ID requirements, but not Photo IDs, you have the following :
Connecticut — Obama won
Rhode Island — Obama won
Delaware — Obama won
Virginia — Obama won
South Carolina
Alabama
Kentucky
Ohio — Obama won
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas
Arkansas
Colorado — Obama won
North Dakota
Montana
Utah
Arizona
Washington — Obama won
Alaska
How do YOUR “facts” compare to these? Do you want to “dismiss” any of them?
If you want to spend the next four years in misery , and that’s exactly what it looks like to me, go ahead. Just do it in private. You do yourself – and the country – no favors when you continue to rant.
For the life of me, I can’t understand why some people can’t accept the fact that their candidate lost. The whiners are the “close-minded” ones. Wishing things weren’t a certain way isn’t going to turn things around.

“Wow. Incredible. You say no one here is miserable? What’s the word YOU would use to describe the mood, then?”— How about inflammatory? Neither side wants to open their eyes long enough to possibly admit the others may be right. Or, hyper partisan? Not once have I ever seen you or a couple others admit that their politician of choice is wrong on certain things. That appears to go for both sides of the argument at times. As for myself? I will continue to point out things that the MSM refuses to report on due to political slant to the far left. I’m not miserable one iota. And Obamas handling of Sandy was much worse than Bushes handling of Katrina. And isn’t it peculiar to you that now that election is over, and obama got his photo ops and false image of handling it, it’s no longer in the news much?

When the facts don’t support your case (see above), you can’t be right. And once lies are identified, anything else one says is automatically suspect.
Inflammatory rhetoric about the president is good??? What purpose does it serve to continually call him “dumb”, “a liar”, and “praying for him to fail”, etc.? How is that positive? It isn’t only you, but a select faction of the Tea Partiers who are still in a state of denial.
I don’t know what MSM you follow, but I see coverage of the hurricane EVERYWHERE, everyday. Thousands of people are working very hard to try to restore some sense of order in the NE region. To continue to hurl potshots at these people (or to blame the Obama administration) does them a tremendous disservice. They’re working night and day. You’re not. They don’t need criticism, they need support — mostly financial.
If you think you can do better, head East! Then, no one could accuse you of “armchair quarterbacking”. You’d be getting your hands dirty instead.

“You obviously have never watched her show or read her writings.
Rachel has a degree in public policy from Stanford University; was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University; holds a PhD from Oxford University. ” She OBVIOUSLY skipped class when they were teaching honesty, integrity & ethics in journalism. And I tried to watch her show once and found her to be obnoxiously partisan. What happened to non partisan journalism? On the opposite side, I won’t watch her, Hannity, Limbaugh, Matthews, O’Brien etc. for the same reason, waaaay to far to each end.

After the short viewing, she came off as very partisan so I did a bit of research via the web. Turns out, she IS very partisan and as far left as you can get without completely falling off the wagon. Appears as though she has stretched the truth numerous times in her reporting, but is never called out for it because it benefits her political leanings. Bias in the media is getting quite old. I yearn for the days when the news was reported as it happened, not reported or buried depending on who could be damaged , or look back by it. As I said, it’s the same reason I won’t watch Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. (even though you constantly accuse me of getting my information there)

The Rachel Maddow Show is a daily news and opinion television program. Rachel is smart and witty and polite. I can see how conservatives are put off by that.
In 2011, the Rachel Maddow Show won a News and Documentary Emmy in the Outstanding News Discussion and Analysis category for the segment, “Good Morning, Landlocked Central Asia”.
In March 2010, Maddow won at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in the category, Outstanding TV Journalism—Newsmagazine for her segment, “Uganda Be Kidding Me”.
The Rachel Maddow Show has been nominated 2 times for a Television Critics Award in the “Outstanding Achievement in News & Information” category.
Maddow also took home a Walter Cronkite Faith & Freedom Award for her work in covering religion and politics.
The show took home the Planned Parenthood Maggie Award for exceptional news coverage of reproductive rights and health care issues.

Why is it the people who always complain about government handouts and overreach are always the first ones to complain when the government doesn’t fix the problems of a natural disaster fast enough?
Chris Christie was an example to his party when he dropped the political posturing and worked with Obama to help all the constituents he represents, Republican, Democrat, and everyone in between.
Christie has taken a lot of heat from his party for doing so, but he did what was right.

I just complain about unfair and biased treatment. Pres. Bush got hammered by the main stream media for his administrations handling of Katrina. The same main stream media hasn’t said much at all about people on Long Island still without power. I haven’t seen Rev. Jackson in the street yelling for discrimination. Then Rep. Obama made references that it was the gov’t abandoning the minorities in the south. I haven’t seen Pres. Obama make any remarks about why people are still without power, and FEMA closed up shop because of bad weather while people don’t have power. As for the Red Cross this is what they have been doing: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/14/us-storm-sandy-redcross-idUSBRE8AD08E20121114

Speaking of pride, Michelle obama said she had no pride in this country; surely her husband had the same feeling and still does. I’m thinking that a lot of the people voting for him didn’t do it out of pride. They did so in hope of a piece of the pie. My thought is that this is the hope and change. Hoping against hope that obama is going to hand them the American dream. That’s never going to happen. You have to earn (build) that if you can. In his first four obama actually diminished the chance of all Americans ever achieving that, by trillions! I hope the next four are not the same, BUT! So you might have voted against yourself. Just because he won the election in no way makes HIM a winner! Hugo Chávez and the like come to mind….

Ben pretty much hit the nail on the head in regards to what is going on out there. The media is NOT reporting a lot of the problems going on out there, (wouldn’t look good for the Fed. Gov. and how this is being handled) No “armchair quarterbacking” here, have a sister and her husband living there that I HAVE spoken to a couple times and it’s not as rosy as the media would have you believe. 99% of the country getting their information from the media IS a problem. Especially when they will only report what is favorable to a failed administration they so dearly support.
