As a reporter, I’ve often said I could spend all week, every week, writing stories warning readers about scams that come down the pike. I cannot count how many scam-warning stories I’ve written in 30-plus years. Well, here I go again. Continue Reading

Dennis, welcome to the last century of Internet fraud. An editorial can get away with leaving out information about what to do about “PHISHING” as it is referred to among knowledgeable readers.
A news article would have informed readers what to do about these scams. The government has asked people to forward these emails to them at spam@uce.gov with full headers. They have people who try to trace all those Nigerian letters and other fraud. Another group works to keep ahead of the phony websites set up to collect your credit card numbers and personal information. That mail should be forwarded to reportphishing@antiphishing.org . Less organized things like spam or Canadian pharmacies and the like can just be forwarded to abuse@XXXX.com , using the ISP provider in place of the X’s. example abuse@yahoo.com or abuse@gmail.com etc., Wherever the email came from. Forwarding with full headers allows the sleuths to track down the senders because they use false email addresses to bounce around servers and avoid tracking.
