As a taxpayer Captain I most certainly hope some things change. That means at least one base gone. I am as pro military as they come (we have already discussed my family’s military history) but wasting resources on unneeded and unwanted infrastructure weakens America’s ability to defend itself.
Every year the Joint Chiefs of Staff appear before some congressional body or other begging to get rid of the excess capacity that hobbles our war fighters so they can spend the money where it is needed, not where some congressman or senator wants. Every year this happens and every year they get turned down.
If you are truly a conservative and believe in fiscal sanity and a strong defense, you would have to agree with me. The most important thing Heidi could do for the country would be to reopen the Base Closure and Realignment process – doing so with the knowledge that one or both of our bases would disappear.
Hoeven most certainly will not do it. He is old school ND: give us as much as possible while we return as little as possible.
So my question Captain: are you truly a strong defense conservative or are you just angry your side lost?

I think she will work across the isle more than Rick Berg did. I also don’t believe that will have to worry about here giving away her ability to work for North Dakota like Berg did. I think that she, Hoeven and Cramer will make a good team.

As discussed on another thread: Heidi will vote for insuring ND gets more than it gives, even if that is not the best for the country as a whole.
On social issues and SCOTUS nominations she will vote with the Big O because she is from that side of the party.
No big surprises. The people will get what they voted for

Oh, he will be just fine. He has enough money to live on. He can write a book, get paid to do speeches and be a figure head on some company’s board of directors. All in all he will do the same for North Dakota that he did while he was in office, not a damned thing and make a boat load of money doing it.

With Rich Berg potentially back in the picture at Goldmark, renters better make sure they document the condition of their units before and after they have lived there, ‘cuz it’s gonna be an even bigger battle to get their security deposits back.

Do you think his partners will take him back after he threw them under the bus?

How did you get that from what he wrote ?
Are landlords the only ones who should have any rights ?

Woodrow: Kyle seems to have a problem with landlords taking expenses out of deposits when their property is returned to them. I think he probably did not get his full deposit back at one time or another. It is the responsibility of the renter to document issues in the property they rent, so they are not charged for same when they return the property to the owner. It’s really not that hard to understand.
How did you get ‘only landlords have rights’ out of what I wrote. Landlords and tenants have ‘rights.’ Those rigths are spelled out in the rental contract. If landlords are not following the contract, then throw the book at them. Please don’t take my comments as being supportive of landlords. I have had disputes with landlords about deductions from deposits. I even had to take one landlord to court, in England no less, to get any of my deposit back. I have no love for landlords.

Wow! Mr. Berg is taking the “high road” after a political career of voting the tea party line and throwing mud at every opportunity. He lost to Heitkamp due to his ND legacy of greed, dirty politics, rigid tea party congressional votes, small mindedness and a lack of “taking the high road”. Just a little bit of the “high road” in his past would have given him this election. The ND electorate is much smarter than I gave them credit for. I was wrong about that. The partisan hatred, bile and spite by the minority of political haters will follow Heidi throughout her political career. Anyone who has direct knowledge about or direct contact with, knows that she is so much bigger and better than those moral midgets. I am so grateful that I was wrong about the wisdom of the ND voters. Since I can deal with facts (rather than bend reality to match my ideology), I can readily admit my error. That is very rarely seen among the partisan hypocrites who spew their vitriol in Area Voices. And so it goes…..

I find it laughable that people are PRE JUDGING our Senator elect…even going as far as chiding her ability to “work across the aisle”. Especially hilarious when you understand the FACT that she is replacing one of Grover Norquist’s PUPPETS (a real non partisan, beacon of light)! At least Hoeven had enough of a spine to tell Grover to take a hike.
