Ban defeated, gay marriage could come to Minnesota
November 7, 2012 at 4:35 pm in Grand Forks Herald
Minnesota’s proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage is history. The fight isn’t over for gay marriage supporters, though. The next logical step is the actual right to marry. Continue Reading

There are many churches that have been performing marriages for years. This is only about legal recognition not the ability to get married.

Oh, for dumb! Do not compare homosexuality to incest. I suppose one of the next comments will bring up beastiality. Homosexuals are not mentally ill sexual deviants. Stop comparing them to mentally ill sexual deviants. They are not child molesters, or into any other kind of deviancy any more than the straight population.

The best one I’ve heard yet is that we would have to start letting people marry trees, if they are so inclined. Ridiculous.

If the republicans want to become a serious political force again they will have to drop their 4G (God, Gays, Guns, Gynecology) strategy that has successfully persuaded a lot of people to vote for them — even though their vote is against their fiscal interests.
The GOP ideological approach (dubbed “theocratic” by some) will have to change too. Ideology may work for a while, but when contrary data accumulate, even the most “faithful” have to pay attention. Consider some of the GOP issues that have (or will be) shown to be nonsense:
- Being gay is a choice
- Creationism
- Global warming is a leftist conspiracy
- America was founded as a Christian nation
My advice (genuinely well meant) to the GOP:
- Tell the tea party that their radicalism has alienated the majority
- Tell religious zealots to keep out of politics
- Do not ever put a pledge to a plutocrat above a pledge to defend the COTUS
- Embrace science
- Focus on fiscal policies that are evidence-based.
My advice to the loonies on the far left? Grow up — or you may let the status quo GOP prove me wrong!

A plurality of Minnesotans seemed to recognize that constitutions exist to assure rights, not take them away.
