Obama re-elected to 2nd term
November 6, 2012 at 4:45 pm in West Central Tribune
WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama has won re-election to a second term as president, beating back a fierce challenge from Republican Mitt Romney. Obama prevailed despite a weak economy and high unemployment. Continue Reading

Now that this election is over and Obama has won relection lets hope the Republicans get on board and pass this jobs bill. The presidents policies have worked despite those who claim otherwise and the evidence was there. Many still blame the Bush era for the struggle we have had in over coming the recession and the housing market. The deficit was a fairytale and distorted to make it appear Obama was responsible but in fact the two wars, rising healthcare, Veteran care, and social programs demanded Americas continued investment. This was truly not the presidents fault because 18% of appropriations from Bushes presidency were carried over in 2009 and were law. Repubicans hurt themselves starting in 2010, when they went after SS. Medicare, unions, collective bargining, welfare, foodstamps, instead of investing money into education, and job programs that really needed our attention. Our infrastucture is in dire need of repair and we need to see both parties get together and fix it which can put a few million to work. The Republicans have not come up with a true candidate for the people, and proved it by supporting the wealthy. The party needs to work on many issues to gain back the trust of the people and shake of this so called teaparty that has displayed the wrong message. Some Republicans went after women, and as hard as other Republicans tried to repair the damage they were not successful. Women really decided to make a difference to rally the votes for the president. In all reality the people couldn’t trust Romney and who could blame them! Romney never created jobs him and his company outsourced them. He changed his stance on issues, had a poor record as gov, and didn’t fully support Veterans which also hurt him. Romney mislead and tried distorting the truth about the auto company and China which ended up coming back and hurting him in Ohio, The truth is we are better off then we were 4yrs ago and people knew this down deep inside.

My nickels worth … if politics got out of the social issues, more Republicans might come back into the fold … as it is, there are tons of us without a party. That, and the changing demographics of this country. Romney still carried the white, male vote, but you need more then that as a candidate to win. Minorities ran from him, as did women … you need to, as a party, represent or relate to more then one demographic.

Veterans ran from Romney as well, and were not very happy that Republicans did not fully support Veterans. This country has changed, and times have changed, and Republicans don’t appear to be on the same page as the majority of this country. The way some Republicans went after women, ignored the poor, and attacked social programs, they truly disowned the 47% who voiced their frustration with the Republican party at the polls. Republicans continues to support Bushes trickle down polices that ran this economy into the ground. As it turns out the party didn’t learn anything from 2008!

Let us now hope, that we can come together as a country and move forward together to in a bi-partisan manner and leave idealogical stigamas behind for what is best for our country. The name calling and failure of respect and name calling must end, and compromise must start again.

Have you notice Carl is usually the first to comment especially if it has to do with the President. I guess denial can be the toughest to accept when it becomes reality. The Minnesota government is now Dem controlled and hopefully they will work with Republicans to better Minnesota end the gridlock that have shutdown gov in the past. Congrats to the new freshman Dems and their quest to get into politics. Hopefullly they can represent this state for the best interests of the people.

I think Carl is in the dislike section. I agree with Roger its up to both parties to come together for the good of the people not for anyone agenda or power trip. We can only move forward as a country if we are all a part of it and not divided.

Well Bob wouldn’t this be a start for both parties to work together for the good of the country? You see that is the attitude that has caused this country to suffer. Romney said he can create 12m Jobs, and 217T in Wis, so now is the time to put his job plan into action especailly for his own party.

Bob maybe the wealthy can contribute more because the last look at Romney’s tax returns he pays less then I do and makes 21M a year. Romney like other wealthy rich and powerful have off shore accounts they stuff their cash into so the IRS doesn’t get a piece, and it is also estimated that the wealthy owe billions in taxes to the IRS that the gov can’t touch and these banks have been less then cooperative with officials to reveal the names of Americans with cash stashed their banks and other overseas banks. As usual Republicans punish the average Americans while the Rich and shameless continue to hide behind a blanket of legal loop holes.

Bohner will be the next teaparty radical to be voted out if he doesn’t change his ways. I am wondering if Romney actually had a job plan, because if he had this job plan why not put it into motion when he first won the presidentail nomination? Romney would have surely won the election because people would have believed he was sincere, instead maybe it was all talk to get your vote?

Well Bob one doesn’t need that much financial education to know the difference between hiding assets and paying your fair share. Sure the tax loop holes and the investment returns make some of it legal but tell me Bob who pays for the billions in healthcare fraud that the feds are now just catching up too? No its not coming from average working Americans, the poor or the disabled, it is comiing from the already well to do who embrace greed that has wrecked this countries economy. Looks like the people agree Bob because your man didn’t get voted in. People like you Bob ignore the obvious then put a spin on the financial aspects of it. Bob you tend to defend the very problems hurting this country, but then again you are entitled to your opinion.

Bob we all know creating job growth creates a tax base and the more who work the more money is invested into state and goverment but on that same note didn’t Obama try to create this when he passed the stimulus? The jobs bill would be super and put millions to work on our infrastructure killing 2 birds with one stone. With at least a million or more working you bring down the tax base and have the money to fund state and goverment programs. For the past 10yrs we have taken more out then we have put in with the 2 war, the budgeting for homeland, and the private war compaines healthcare and other social programs to help those out of work or disabled. Because of spending elsewhere Less money has been available for states and counties to pay for law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, education, which all which suffered layoffs, cuts in hours, and more paid toward healthcare and pensions. Bob explain why Republicans were against the Stimulus, and the jobs bill? These are all bonfide good investments that Republcians have labled deficits. We bailed out big corporations and banks dumping over a trilllion into them, and how much of this money was spend on CEO bonuses, vacations, leer jets, while these same banks and companies raised borrowing rates charged more fees for services, and had the nerve to ask for more. These two candidates also stated big government is not the answer to revive the economy yet both candidates didn’t hesitate to ask Uncle Sam when they needed their businesses bailed out.

Some private business I have no problem with, it is those that took big tax breaks then outsourced the jobs overseas that bug me. However some things can not be and shouldn’t be privatized, such as state and federal jobs, this is where good paying jobs with pensions are at. The Republicans wanted to start privatizing many of these jobs and with privatization is lower paying jobs with a public retirement plan as well as less then above average benefits because it is all about the bottom line. Only with a union does employees have a better chance. Also with privatization comes less oversight. Privatizing SS and Medicare is another angle Republicans worked on and did not get any support, even other Republicans were against it. Bob I don’t have any problems, my candidate won, and at least we have a chance at a jobs bill that the GOP call a deficit.

Here we go again the sky is falling. I can remember when Obama was elected in 2008 and the far right claimed the country is going to fall and Obama will take our guns. One just has to laugh at these so called predictions of doom because they never happen. When people make these desperate claims it is because they lack insight and have no foundation whats so ever. I’ll bet when Obama won in 2008 the far right never thought he would take out Bin Ladden!

The people delievered a message and that they are tired of the obstructionists, tired of the stall tactics and tired of the gridlock. The people re-elected a people president who has the people in his best interest. Some have the perception and the attitude that a guy like Romney would care more about the average person as he does the wealthy and influencial. What is also a shame is some voted for Romney merely because they just can’t except a person of color in the whitehouse and thank goodness that is a small percentage. I can tell you I have heard this talk by some as well as the dire insane predicitions that only a person with no insight will say. Time for the country to move on and time for some to realize this country is not about one person, one group, or one religion, and the sooner that happens the better this country will be.

I will never understand this talk of free markets and tax breaks for the wealthy. It is incredibly obvious looking at history that if business is not regulated they will take the shortest possible path to profits ignoring ANY damage done. Simple as that. OUR government is there to protect a fair shake for everybody, also simple.
People blather on about freedom and America being “the greatest nation”, but that is also complete crap. Look at all of the statistics. You want to talk morality? Where is the concern for our fellow man? Why did 22,000 Americans die last year of TREATABLE illnesses? The only way to success is to manage and care for our greatest resource; our people. Education and healthcare are our nation’s biggest priorities if we want to get back towards the top.
My girlfriend’s brother said a major reason for the economic troubles in Europe was the financial burden of their universal healthcare systems. Hmmm. let’s see, we spend 17% of GDP on a system that leaves 45 million without any coverage and maybe that many with crap coverage like myself. Meanwhile THE REST of the industrialized world averages about HALF OUR COST while covering EVERYBODY. They have better results in every category. Nobody dies of preventable disease. Nobody goes bankrupt from healthcare bills (the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the US). So we in a great land with an abundance of resources underachieve while Europe in a small well used land of much less resources manages a better life for their people. I would answer her brother that part of the reason Europe can even compete with us is because of their healthcare system. Their education system doesn’t hurt either.
All these other industrialized nations faced the moral question of whether to give everybody equal access to care. Anybody can get sick. Do you want to live in a country where you might have to stand by and watch someone suffer and die because they were born into circumstances that led to a lower middle class or lower incomer?

The greatest nation is over shadowed by greed and manipulation because ones healthcare is determined on what one can afford. I have seen countless cases were those with, fair or no health insurance get very sick and then are sent home to die. We have US companies profiting from overseas slave labor but keep employees at sometimes less then livable wages. This has been going on for sometime yet some people seem to vote against their better interests when they voted for Romney. Now its your right to vote how you feel but when some vote based on religion or culture, or even emotions they are not only short changing themselves but others as well. What you are saying is the richest no matter how they got there should run this country. Look around in some areas of this country where some are living like they are in third world country, and it borders on the control of big corporate interests, lobbyists, speculators as well as insiders, bent on making as much money as they can and the heck with the rest.

I work really hard, thanks. Have my own little business and have positive interactions and outcomes with my customers! I do realize Zimbabwe is in Africa, but was referring to my earlier post as most right-wingers think of Europe as inferior to the US. I didn’t take your Zimbabwe reference seriously.
Look I think people with views like Jeff Carlson and Smartimus are so far away from my outlook that I don’t expect anything from them. I am here in the hope that I may learn something and maybe help someone else see things differently.

Well Smartimus it is obvious your just screwing around. Kinda funny I guess, but this stuff is pretty serious. Have you ever had any personal interaction with someone who is on welfare? Not a good situation for anybody; the taxpayer or the poor person. I am for any welfare program that aims to get people off the dole and working. Not so much because of the tax savings as welfare is a pittance compared to defense spending, but for the good of society and the poor person. When someone is born into poverty it takes exceptional effort and maybe some luck to break the chain. Most of these people are working poor. The money from welfare is not enough so they work as well. Night warehouse jobs stocking the shelves of your local Wallmart…you never see them. The kind of jobs corporate America loves; no benefits so the tax payer has to subsidize the worker for the company. Your beloved free market at work. How come I never hear right wingers complain about companies underpaying workers who then need food stamps and emergency room healthcare? Do you think this is fun for the poor person. Work hard have nothing and god forbid someone gets sick or injured. The systems is a mess and the poor people didn’t create this. Cast you gaze elsewhere if you are interested in the truth.

How do you propose we continue to pay for the goodies we’re handing out now? We clearly can’t pay for the leftist free stuff right now. The tax increases the left salivates over will do nothing to reduce the debt. Spending will only go up exponentially. The left has no intention of reducing the deficit. You lefties think every dollar earned by private citizens belongs to you and should be allocated to the parasites. We’re long past taking care of the truly needy in this country. You think I’m joking about New Zimbabwe. That’s where we’re headed.

Probably a better place for people who don’t like the left or believe the left have failed. I don’t believe someone like a rich phony so called American values candidate was not in the peoples best interest and they said so. Those that think he was a true candidate that would look out for our best interests were actually delusional, and don’t want to move forward. What I love and have learned is some of the so called righteous right collect the same social services this country provides but can’t help bashing those they believe don’t deserve them. For those who don’t like how the election turned out and think its better elsewhere, there is the door, no one is holding any of you back!
