Northland crew to bring fuel to East Coast
November 5, 2012 at 6:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Corey Lonetto figures he won’t be home in West Duluth this Thanksgiving. That’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make as he and five other Como Oil & Propane truck drivers deliver nearly 40,000 gallons of fuel to the storm-beaten East Coast.

Two sides to this story pop out of my head. First, thanks for helping out. Second, now I know (as a Como customer) why my fuel costs more than all my neighbors who are not Como customers.

Hello Josiah,
I appreciated reading your response to the story regarding Como’s assistance to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. I was surprised, however, about your comment on pricing. Every propane and oil company in the Twin Ports is within $.05 to sometimes $.10 per gallon. I would be happy to discuss this with you over the phone if you wish.

Nice feel good story but-how much fuel will it take for the trucks to go to and come back from New York? What is the pay plans for drivers? and what is the pay for sleeping and eating arangements for those drivers? Wouldn’t it be more cost effecient to get fuel from closer sites?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the comments. We had the same questions; why us way out here in Duluth, MN. They truly are desparate for assistance and are taking trucks and manpower from even further away than us. You can be assured that the drivers are being well taken care of; we would not have sent them into such an unknown situation, nor would they have volunteered without assurances of worthwhile accomodations and compensation.

Our first thought was- there are tons of refineries in Pennsylvania- and tons more of companies closer that could do this-
