Lynn Helms, Bismarck, column: Oil-production unit ensures ‘greatest possible good’ for N.D.

With all of the debate surrounding the approval of the Corral Creek oil-production unit, it’s easy to lose sight of why the unit was created in the first place: to manage the resources of the area for the greater good and to significantly minimize the impact of oil development. Continue Reading

Since this mega-unit was such a no-brainer, and Dalrymple was such a shoe-in for governor, why did Big Oil need to contribute $O MUCH MONEY to Dalrymple’s campaign in violation of ND’s bribery statutes?
I’d say something just smells funny… if it wasn’t so obviously visible.
If we elect this guy, Dahlrymple, North Dakota will be damaged goods when he is convicted. If he is not convicted, the “FOR SALE” signs on our elected officials will be glowing brighter than ever.

Oil companies have been regular contributors to ND Republican governors for some time because they, in general, have been supportive of creating an environment for oil companies to drill and make money.

Since the state law says “to foster, to encourage, and to promote the development, production, and utilization of natural resources of oil and gas in the state in such a manner as will prevent waste; to authorize and to provide for the operation and development of oil and gas properties in such a manner that a greater ultimate recovery of oil and gas” one might reasonably ask Mr. Helms what he has been doing approving so many drilling permits when we are clearly wasting taxable natural gas by flaring it off because of the inability to capture it for use (and collect a tax on it!)
