Solid job growth in last reading before election
November 3, 2012 at 12:35 am in Grand Forks Herald
The United States added a solid 171,000 jobs in October, and more than a half-million Americans joined the work force, the latest signs that the uneven economic recovery is gaining strength once again. Continue Reading

That’s barely enough to keep up with population growth.

Remember 4 years ago, when the economy was in a complete free-fall? We are so much better off now than we were then.
I know all you Republicans want to take the White House back, but you just haven’t earned it. We haven’t forgotten what you did when you had it, and we are still dealing with a bunch of immature spoiled cry baby Republicans who refuse to do anything if they can’t have their way, both in ND and the Fed. Shoot, you are even admitting and bragging about it in campaign speeches and attack ads. That attitude CANNOT be allowed to carry over into the highest office in the country.
Sorry.

Kevin is right. Do a little reading on this topic and you will find that out quick enough. I’m really disappointed that the Forum fails to report the facts on unemployment in this country. Why write an article on this subject if you are going to leave the details out?

When he took office and everything was falling apart the country was losing 750000 jobs per month….I’d say that’s a pretty significant turn around.
On the other hand…I’m surprised this paper will give any hint of achievement to this president….Especially after reading this mornings Jacobs swill….For someone who’s supposedly has his head in the news…He seems to have it someplace where the sun doesn’t shine…

Turnaround? Unemployment is higher than when he took office! He got to subsidize all of the industries that he thought were important and ignore the US bankruptcy laws to try and keep the auto industry going (GM and Chrysler would not have disappeared) and still can’t keep up with population growth when it comes to job creation.
I don’t think turnaround is the right word. More like stuck in the mud.
Oh, and you want to give him some credit? Give him credit for 6 trillion dollars in new debt.
But he passed the affordable care act!
Ok, that’s why the insurance premium for my wife and I is going up by $1,200 next year. Yes, two healthy people in their 20′s are going to have to pay $1,200 more for insurance next year. What a great DEAL!!!!!!!
Oh, but now some poor people can get insurance that were getting free healthcare before anyway…
Thanks for helping the middle class Mr. President!…

Barely used, but can I get you a deal….a really good deal…….You seem like the kind of person who knows a good deal when you hear it, so let me tell you about a wonderful deal that’s every bit as valid as your 6 trillion caused by this president…..

Seriously, why does FOX news have to be mentioned every time a Democrat/liberal person posts a comment. Just because someone is not 100% behind President Obama does not mean they are someone who can’t think independently. We get it….FOX is geared toward righties. News flash…MSNBC is on the left. It all evens out. WHO CARES!! Not everybody in the world watches cable news. Sheesh!!

Fox has given wrong information as facts time and again in an effort to discredit this presient and basically anything not Republican. Gotta love that fair and tough media.

Yes we can do what? Move FORWARD? CHANGE? Please explain to me what these mean.
The only thing Obama can promise is that 4 more years will have passed when his next term is up.
OBAMA 4 YEARS FROM NOW: (with Obama stump speech inflection) “I said we would move forward and here we are! The year is 2016. It was 2012 when I was re-elected and WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY MOVED FORWARD TO THE YEAR 2016!”
Then there will be people on here saying: “Thank God Obama gave us all free batteries for our clocks so that time could keep moving FORWARD!”
Wait, what am I talking about? All of the clocks in my house will be powered by wind generators that will charge every time I fart.
I think that I’m starting to get it! 4 more years! Yes we can!

As opposed to Rmoney promising all things to everyone?
Rmoney will overturn Roe and support women’s right to chose, he will support the 2nd amendment while restricting guns, he will support drones for law enforcement while supporting the 4th amendment, he’ll make everyone responsible for their own health care while providing healthcare for everyone, he’ll be severely conservative while working with the Dems, he’ll lower the debt by cutting revenue and increasing spending, he’ll cut green house emissions while denying their effect, he’ll support the stem cell research that he doesn’t believe in, he’ll support a minimum wage that keeps pace with inflation while it kills jobs, he’ll get tough on Chine while his companies move there, he’ll be 100% consistent while he shakes the etch-a-sketch…all on day one!

Obama promised transparency and we can’t even get him to tell the truth on Benghazi. We know the truth but he still won’t say it. I’m sorry but any administration that will tell the US Military to stand down while it’s citizens are attacked by terrorists while we have resources to fight back in the immediate area does not deserve our vote!

Maybe we could have had a lot more done in all things had the GOP not tried to stop everything he did. You on the right are amazing when it comes to what you actually have paid attention to. The right had a simple plan to try to make his presidency a failur by blocking everything they could regardless of the long range effects. They brought our credit rating down, they blocked job bills, and basically to america that it was less important than the fox party running the GOP. It’s amazing he and the Dems were able to get through the things they did with all the obstruction. The real question is why anyone still wants anything to do with the anti American GOP after they’ve proven they could care less about the country….

Enough with the excuses. How about answers? Clinton had a Rebublican congress. Reagan had a Democratic congress. They were able to reach across the aisle and get things done.
Oh, it was worse than we thought, no one will work with us. Blah, Blah, Blah If you were a great leader Obama, you would have gotten the job done.
He said in his own words that if he didn’t get this thing turned around in 4 years it was going to be a one term proposition. We are essentially where we were 4 years ago. The economy is slightly better than the BOTTOM of the recession and there are more people on food stamps than ever.

We won’t really know the outcome until the votes are counted. How many people who voted for McCain do you know that will be voting for Obama this time around? Please explain to me what Obama has done in the last four years to steal a McCain voter from Romney? Of course you won’t you will just laugh at my “ridiculous” question…

If you can remember all the way back to two years ago, the Democrats controlled all three branches of govt. He got everything done that he wanted in the first two years. Now we are just sitting back and watching it fail.
He wants to brag about the success of his auto bailout but here’s what forbes has to say. These are the facts people. I probably can’t get a link up in the forum but paste this article in your browser and search it:

When GM ran those commercials that said that they had re payed all of their govt loans, they actually gave the govt stock because they couldn’t withstand the Govt Motors label and expect their business to grow enough to make the money they needed to pay the govt back. They couldn’t pay back their loans and now We the People own stock in GM.
How many of you Obama zombies knew that we owned stock in GM and still buy into his campaign rhetoric?
P.S. Don’t let the president hear about my comment above or he will just counter and coin a clever phrase to characterize me as a die hard Romney supporter. “Oh, that guy’s a Rombie…”

No, it was over a year ago that GM ran those ads.
By the way, GM stock is at 25.50 at this exact second. So you think GM’s stock is going to rise $5 every three months consistently until it hits $53? That’s still a couple of years away.

You may be right but the fact that you think this is in the bag for Obama because of some polls sounds more like smack talk than logical debate. The post that you responded to was smack talk as well but you have yet to contribute anything to this forum besides 4 more years and some poll numbers.
A lot of the polls (not all) have a higher sampling of dems over republicans. So many swing states are within the margin of error and i have seen some polls where Romney us up by 5 points in a state and a different poll from the same state where they are tied and some where Obama is leading.
Basic point, Polls don’t matter when it’s this close.

It’s because the mainstream media is the liberal media and this story is damaging to the President. It’s a major cover up by the white house. They ALL lied to us about it!
I’m sorry, I am seriously offended as an American that you think that 4 Americans being killed by terrorists isn’t news. The two seals that were killed disobeyed orders to stand down and let this attack run it’s course. They did so to try and save the lives of Americans!
I suppose you think that that whole September 11th 2001 thing wasn’t anything either…

So go ahead and complain about conservative media, they must be the only media outlets that aren’t balanced. I don’t watch FOX either.

You obviously have not been keeping up on this situation. Let’s see how much you know.
Why was our embassy attacked?
Were the Navy Seals killed stationed at the embassy?
When did the president know it was a terrorist attack?
What was the reason the white house originally gave us for the attack?
What was the real reason for the attack?
If one of these people were a member of your family would you just accept a bogus excuse for the attack and ignore the facts that they were watching all of this happen in real time and chose to do nothing about it?

Jeff I am reffering you to realclear politics a site which averages all the major polls. Rasmussen only gives romney a +1 that is a conservative poll. Check it out. These polls everyone of them have moved towards obamas favor in the last two weeks. Why is that jeff, The first response out of a losing campaign is telling the public to ignore the polls. Look at the popularity of early weekend polling in fl and ohio something that would favor a democratic canidate. These people are voting on the weekend because it is harder for the working class to take time off of work to vote. The signs are there but stay in denial, please.

Romney would have these new job numbers as only bad news. Since when are new jobs bad news? These are in spite of the obstructionist GOP congress that spend all of it’s time trying to make Obama look bad. The GOP doesn’t diserve the White House and deserves to loose seats in the House and Senate. These do nothing slackers deserve to be out of jobs themselves for their poor performance. The gop wants us to focus on the past 4 years and not the 8 years before that. Our economy was headed down the drain in 2008. months into obama’s 1st term our financial system had it’s largest collapse since the great deppresion. Although slowly our economy is recovering with the resistance of the gop. Ask yourself do you really want to put the same people in charge of the country that destroyed our economy from 2000 to 2008?

I thought Dodd and Frank were Dems?? Banks were forced to give loans to people that had no business getting a loan. The bubble had to burst. Dems take control of the house in Jan 2007 and started to break the bank. Now we have even worse news. A Romney win can get things back to normal. We won’t have to settle for high unemployment, high gas, record debt and record food stamps as the new norm.

Well apparently they’re all pretty much convinced they were robbed. Try as they might they just couldn’t keep the minority vote suppressed….As a result….non whites stole the election. Nobody seems to want to look at who actually caused this fools errand…….Rove and the neocons….Instead they’ve come to the conclusion that outside forces caused Romney to lose.
Nobody seems to remember…..The Republicans didn’t actually want Romney. Even after Rove used PAC money to go negative against the other GOP candidates whenever they lead in the polls until finally only Romney was left….They were still asking Christy and Jeb Bush to run. They knew back then he wasn’t presidential, but once they were stuck with him he suddenly became the “Great White Hope” who would ride in and fix everything…..When nothing in his history ever suggested he had such skills in the first place. You don’t develop skills fixing things when you’ve basically destroyed things in the past. Yet somehow he had the plans…….But he was cagey and never said what they were other then going back to Bush ideas……the very plan that put us there in the first place

Solid job growth, right; Any job growth this time of the year is seasonal (holiday season). It happens every year. It was convenient for Obama that it fit in with election time, but Obama had nothing to do with it. Government cannot tell business to hire anyone, It only happens when production or need for service goes up.
