Judge upholds Grand Forks adult store law
November 3, 2012 at 12:15 am in Grand Forks Herald
A Grand Forks judge has upheld a law that prevented an adult-oriented Fargo business from opening a store near an elementary school.
District Court Judge Lawrence Jahnke denied an appeal by Jim and Kim Patterson of a city ordinance banning adult-oriented businesses from opening near schools, churches and most residential areas. Continue Reading

I have no problem with the finding. But the city of Grand Forks still owes these people all the money they invested because they changed the rules AFTER the fact. Remember they had permission form the city to open their business before they signed lease and spent moneys.

If I were the owners, I would have simply attempted to locate in the Grand Cities Mall, since, from what I understand, locations in malls are exempt. I am fairly sure there would be a big fuss. Parents wouldn’t want their children watching a drunkard from the next-door bar stumbling out of a sex shop while going from their next-door church to K-Mart.

I wonder how much the “student” actress was paid for the photo shoot and if she receives royalties whenever her photo is used.
Hot debate. What do you think?

I brought up the fact that that was obviously a staged photo when it was first printed. Pretty much showed where the Herald stood on the issue.

They endorse Mitt…So they’re pretty much willing to stoop pretty low in all areas

It was actually Forum Communications that did the endorsement. I’m pretty sure Jacobs downed a case of Pepto-Bismol because of it.

Sorry, but when a newspaper stages the news, whether a story or, in this case, a photo, its credibility ceases to exist.

Just another example as to why I feel strongly that any news outlet owned by Forum Communications is not a reputable news source. It has sunk to the level of the Nat’l Enquirer.

Where is the Republican OUTRAGE!?!
This story involves regulation of a business, and a judge upholding that regulation. The lack of outrage shows what a bunch of hypocrites Grand Forks Republicans are. They call themselves conservatives, but they are only conservative when the money isn’t coming their way, and when the regulation matches their whims.

Unless there’s sex involved…Then it’s just liberal filth that they have no interest in….Even though this wasn’t a porn shop in the traditional sense….More of a clothing store with toys and a back section with a few movies. Comparing it to something like the one down town was a farce from the get go.

“I dint know where the pattersons’ have all this money to fight these lawsuits and open stores all over the place. ”
Product is all cheap junk made in China. Profit margins are ENORMOUS.

You mean the toys don’t carry the “Made in America” label? How can they enjoy them without the red, white, and blue in there somewhere? I guess someone will have to come up with a line that plays the “Star Spangled Banner” when activated…..That ought to get the juices flowing eh?

If they sold something like that, the TEA Partiers wouldn’t just be expressing outrage on the internet, they would have draped themselves in the flag and swamped City Hall in the name of “regulation is the Devil!”

In making those articles you have to make a sacrifice: either red, white, and blue, or D batteries. Both won’t fit.

“regulation is the Devil”
What is he talking about? People that don’t know a damn thing about him bad mouth him. That takes either nerve or stupidity. Earlier today he called he a troll now this.

“D” batteries and a speaker so they can hear tunes like the above mentioned followed by the real show stopper…”Stars And Stripes Forever” However that might cause such an overload of the senses it might need some kind of warning….”May cause temporary black outs…Do not use while driving”

I guess it is good to know that the residents moving to Mayville will have a nice, easy transition, as they will already be used to the small town bickering coming from Grand Forks. Reno, get ready to move over, you may lose your claim to fame as the biggest small town in America. They had better hope the owners are not familiar with ex post facto, because they could have a huge lawsuit on their hands.

Saying Reno is the biggest small town in America is akin to saying your package is the biggest small package in town…..Not really much of a bragging point.

I believe Reno would beg to differ, but there are two different meanings I was trying to emphasize. One, being for a town as small as Reno there is an abundance of entertainment, and second, for a town the size of Grand Forks they have an unusual amount of small town bickering.

The comment that this store is “no worse than spencers and this store should be in the k mart mall” is extremly false. This store is sexually based and although tame when compared to romantix it is not even near the same league as spencers. Spencers sells posters, t shirts, beer glasses and many other types of merchandise. Fantasys is lingerie, penis figures, pornography and sexual devices. Huge difference. This store has no place in residential neighborhoods and should be located elsewhere. But my biggest complaint is the lack of responsibility shown by the owners especially in the egf “opening without even notifying the city. What’s next a lingerie car wash? Don’t worry they already did that in fargo and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it in egf if they win their lawsuit.

Victoria’s Secret sells lingerie. Valley Dairy sells Hustler. Spencer’s sells small toys. I fail to see your point.
