Did that happen in Superior?? Because I can believe the braindead there cheering for it. I would be cheering too, but for different reasons like ‘Yeaaaah, yeahhhh, that big dummy said something stupid again – he’s like a slot machine that keeps paying out’.

One good thing about being unemployed, I guess, is that you have time to attend political stump speeches.

Nice. And why hasn’t the media plastered the airways with this gem? Oh yeah, that’s right – it’s a democrat and not a republican who said it.

In hindsight, your powers to predict the future just plain suck. Lol. If only you actually saw the polling that was done pre-election, you might have known better. Thanks for the laugh =)

Locals in the DNT like the ultra liberal editor from Chicago just hate the fact corporate made them endorse Romney & Cravaack so now they are trying to appease their followers.

So sad too bad, the poor Republicans are coming out of the closet again. They are the most persecuted group that I have ever encountered. Always crying about this and that. Such negativity, maybe they have gotten that way from Romney, who has demonstrated himself to be a cameleon, someone who changes views to meet his political agenda.

Benghazi needs more coverage so Americans know how the commander in chief failed 4 Americans who died. Running out the clock blaming the attack on a movie has been the administration strategy. I guess after repeating “Osama is dead and GM is alive” became such a big part of his reelection strategy that a lie was their only option. It is clear to this American that Obama lied and four Americans did not get needed help and died. Thank you Senator McCain for your service and shinning light on president Obama’s complete foreign policy failure! I expect to go down in flames, but post because for those of us that have served no man, men should be left to die!

If Clinton returns please ask him why his wife did not give them support? If Joe returns ask him why he and Obama were out of the” intelligent” loop. Joe is often out of the loop, but Obama They can not blame others for THEIR political incompetence or can they? I hope voters tell them NO THEY CAN NOT on election day!

I would agree that Libya needs more coverage and Benghazi sheds some light on this. Perhaps we should have hearings, we could discuss:
ISSUE 1: talk about our overall approach to unrest in foreign countries. John McCain for example wanted us to commit to a major set of forces on the ground in Libya (see for example, http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/may/29/mccain-lack-full-us-commitment-hurts-libyans/). John Boehner, on the other hand did not want the US involved, and felt that we should have gotten a declaration of War, per the War powers act before committing any troops to Libya (see http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/14/john-boehner-obama-libya_n_876961.html). Post Qaddafi being lost the Republicans pushed hard for US involvement in rebuilding Libya, which would include aid and establishing strong diplomatic ties (which would include embassies and consulates in major cities). (see http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10/21/republicans-push-for-us-role-in-rebuilding-libya/).
So, which direction do we go? The Bush administration seemed to go with either ignoring a problem (Darfur) or invading (Iraq). The Obama seems to like to take a nuanced approach with some support, but limited military support. For example, the Obama administration largely avoided doing anything military in Egypt, and has only in limited ways helped the rebels in Syria. But they obviously got a bit more involved in Libya. So, should we have a single policy? How do we decide to get troops involved, how much should we be involved in rebuilding? If we replace a dictator we were comfortable with (Mubarak) how hard can we object to the establishment of a regime that opposes us?
This could be a great hearing on foreign policy. And we would definitely need to bring in our short-sightedness of the past (the coup in Iran putting the shah in power, supporting Mubarak in Egypt for so long, working with Saddam Hussein and supplying arms to him when he was fighting Iran, etc.) Lots of good stuff. Maybe we could finally reflect and realize we need a LONG-term policy.
ISSUE 2: the Benghazi attack is also emblematic of another growing trend with our country. The use of private contractors to perform duties that used to be the province of our military or the security service of the department of state. The use of contractors was a followup to the Reagan and first Bush difficulties with conducting private wars, contractors were used on a trial basis during the Clinton years and then exploded with GW Bush. And President Obama continues the practice. The original arguments for the approach were monetary, that we could save money doing so. Of course, this turned out to be utter fantasy, as these services cost far more than they used to cost the military when they did them for themselves. But they do make it easier for presidents to conduct wars that the rest of us do not spend time thinking about. The use of mercenaries by the US, which has gotten out of hand, really needs to be revisited, and could be another issue to explore.
Also, there is the issue of security. Unfortunately, as our history shows, committed attackers will get through no matter what defenses you have in place (the marines in Lebanon, the numerous attacks in the green zone in Iraq, the embassy in Iran to name just a few) and its always easy to find warning signs afterwards, especially with a CYA world (this has become standard operating procedure for the CIA, there is likely no event that they haven’t predicted — remember, they predicted 9/11). Unfortunately, we do not have the best of tools to address this problem. We cannot have enough troops every place to completely safeguard people in part because that would require a lot of troops, but also because its not a precedent we would accept. If Libya allowed us to put a hundred troops in Benghazi to protect our ambassador, how exactly do we refuse them the right to do the same thing in DC? Foreign service practice is that the host country is responsible for the main security, if that fails the folks inside don’t have a lot they can do. So, should we pull out of every unsafe place in the world? As noted above, many legislators, especially Republicans, wanted us involved in rebuilding Libya, and it makes sense as it not only helps push towards governments and people that are more positive to the US, but can lead to business opportunities down the line. So, yes, some subcommittee should look over the state department’s review of their security practices, but it is not worth spending any real congressional time on.
Of course, if all you want to do is score political points by looking butch on defense and hitting someone from the other party, I suppose you *could* make the security issue a big one. Of course, you would have to put major blinders on and ignore basically all of our foreign affairs history, but hey, I think Fox News is up to that task.

Very thoughtful post and I agree with much of your analysis. My issue is blaming a moviie when they knew almost immediately it was a terrorist attack. As news trickled out their lie fell apart and exposed this administration hid the facts forwhat I believe strongly were political purposes. Four men died because of no leadership at the top. He went to Vegas to campaign and fund raise the day these men died. Why did Susan Rice hit four news show claiming it was a reaction to a movie, when she shouldhave had at least the suspicion it was a terrorist attack? I have no explanation but political cover for President Obama failed foreign policy!
