Robinson said “love thy neighbor as thy self”. Taken in the context Robinson intended then means that we should all seek to have sex (love) with our neighbors? NO! The Greek word for love in that verse is not Eros (the root word of erotic) , but Agape (uh-gahp-eh), loosely translated as the love of God. One would think that a Bishop would know the difference between the two. Maybe he does, and is being intentionally misleading.

Denying marriage is not the loving thing to do. Giving more fuel to the people who taunt & harass homosexuals at every opportunity is not the loving thing to do.
I disagree with the debater who said that this amendment will stop the conversation. It absolutely won’t. Gay couples are not going to stop fighting for equality. The anti-gay crowd is not going to stop trying to further marginalize homosexuals and their loved ones.

So you admit that absent a constitutional amendment, you plan on having the courts overturn the will of the people? What a distorted view of our society when one person’s opinion trumps that of the majority. We are a nation of laws, ruled by a constitution. And that Constitution clearly states that those rights not specifically granted to the federal gov’t are given to the individual states. The State Constitution of Minnesota allows the people to decide what will be included in it. Not some bought and paid for activist judge, THE PEOPLE!
I find it curious that gay marriage advocates are outspending opponents by more than 3 to 1, and much of that money is coming from out of state. The same leftists that decry Citizens United decision are turning a blind eye to the very same type of abuses here. When an individual NY resident can donate $100,000 to defeat a Mn State constitutional question, something is clearly wrong.

Gay marriage as a religious issue will never be agreed upon by everyone. We need to leave religion out of it (Is that possible in our society?). My understanding is that this is a legal issue, granting the same legal rights to gay couples as heterosexual couples. Religions can continue to not recognize gay marriages if they want to, or to believe that God says it’s a sin. This issue is blown way out of proportion because some people think they know what God wants.
I saw a license plate yesterday: “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do?). It made me think–Jesus was known to hang out with and love those whom the majority didn’t approve of. It seems clear to me how Jesus would vote on this issue. His Dad might vote differently, though, according to the Old Testiment…

This was the same argument the pro gay marriage folks put forth in MA, and looked what happened. Gays sued churches and religious organizations. Parents were forced to have their public school attending kids get indoctrinated by gay propaganda.

“I saw a license plate yesterday: “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do?)”
But how did Jesus answer? “Go, and sin no more” . Jesus came to save the fallen, the flawed, the imperfect (all of us). But he also spelled out the cost of following him and becoming one of his disciples, and that was to try and live a sinless life. Question: If the Bible identifies homosexual behavior as sinful, in what was does engaging in a gay marriage demonstrate that an individual is trying to live a sinless life?
I see the GM advocates figuratively shaking their fists at God for not allowing them to get married. Hardly the behavior you’d expect from a disciple, eh?

Hugh–My point is that those who believe in Jesus and have read the Scriptures should not be so quick to vote for a ban. The Bible condemns homosexuality, but not the homosexual. I doubt that the Jesus mentioned in the Bible would say that since their behavior is unacceptable, that they should be denied the rights and privileges of everyone else–that they are somehow less deserving because of their genetic make-up or behavior.
I may not agree with “the gay agenda”, but just because I don’t embrace that lifestyle doesn’t mean that gay individuals don’t deserve the rights guaranteed in our constitution. As far as I’m concerned, people should pretty much be able to do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t harm other people. The only “harm” I’ve heard so far is that it will harm the children. This is far from a proven contention.
And, no, Hugh, I don’t think that “gay propaganda” should be part of our children’s education. But I DO think our children should be taught tolerance of people different than themselves. They don’t have to accept that every deviation from the norm is good. But I would hope that they will some day realize that their are all kinds of people in their country, and that’s what makes America great.

Jesus would love them as individuals, while at the same time disagreeing with their behaviors.

I have been troubled over this issue trying to figure how sane individuals could be so venomous against protecting a man woman only marriage until I remembered 4 years ago these same people voted for BHO.
