Clinton energizes crowd at UMD
October 30, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
In a close-fought battle for control of the White House and Congress, Democrats aren’t taking support from Northland voters for granted this year. The party sent its heavy artillery Tuesday afternoon, when former President Clinton took the stage at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Kirby Ballroom.

How soon people forget that he put the plan in the works that caused the housing crisis.
Clinton while signing NAFTA: “NAFTA means jobs, American jobs, and good-paying American jobs.” So how is that working out?

Then as now the only thing right wingers had to complain about was this indiscretion. Everybody had a job, money, crime was the lowest it had been in decades. A strong middle class. The method to a strong economy was proven. The rich were paying a fairer share, but I assure you they were still doing fine. This wasn’t socialism people just a better example of government by the people, for the people. Boy did it feel good.
Who’s going to cast the first stone. I can’t and wouldn’t. I feel for the pain the woman he is still married to must have felt. I ask you; would you trade todays economy for the Clinton economy knowing the president would get one (favor) in the bargain? I would in a heartbeat.
The republican formula guts the economy every time. It has been proven many times. Small minded people voting out of fear and a couple of social issues ruin it for everybody including themselves.

You want something substantive to complain about? How about the people who died from the “Monica Missiles” he sent to distract us from his embarasment.

The scandal may have weighed in Clinton’s decision making but let’s not forget two embassies were attacked. That will always be speculation while you are just avoiding the issue of the economy and how when we finally have gotten a democrat in office the middle class expands. A middle class is what has always defined a developed nation.
If you like to distract from the topic I offer the amount of innocent civilians killed by the Middle Eastern wars started by Bush 1 and 2. We must be talking about something like 500 by Clinton’s strikes versus 132,000-500,000 or more by the Bush wars. We will never know how many.
So can we get back to how great our economy was when Bill Clinton had the reigns?

Stop begging. I’ll make a comment about the Clinton economy.
Clinton and the Republican Congress made some good move – eg. Welfare reform and holding down the growth of spending. Raising taxes was a mistake.
Prosperity is positively correlated with economic freedom. Economic freedom has been declining in the US for decades. That is now being reflected in the lack of GDP growth.

I love it !!!! Great comment. Would have looked like “Dinotopia” with the three together. Boy talk about yesterdays politicians…with yesterdays ideas. Too bad the three couldn’t grab Oberstar and all of them go back to the Jurassic Period where they would be in step with the times.

Not sure I would want Bill Clinton rallying for me..He was impeached by the house of representatives, and was 17 votes short in the senate. He also has cheated on his wife. Not real strong characteristics!

Paula……unfortunately…..that is what happens when we ( supposedly trash ) a Liberal….in an area where we are surrounded by Liberals. Doesn’t make any difference whether the statement is True…..OR ….False! This area is so far Left…..on most ALL things! I am certainly NOT criticizing anyone…..being Left or Right…..BUT, when they are so far one way or the other…..that they cannot see the Pros AND Cons….of the opposing view….and just “shooting from the lip”……that is sad!

I thumbed down because I didn’t agree with the impeachment. Yes Clinton made an indiscretion. People make mistakes. Americans have always loved those who were knocked down but got back up and succeeded. A person such as Mitt who builds a career around sucking the life out of businesses and ruining lives, that concerns me. He will do the same to the nation as a whole if given the chance. Soulless. Clinton can never be accused of soullessness. His crime was of the human kind.

I don’t care if Clinton campaigns in my living room. I won’t be voting for any Democrats until they cease handing out things for free to people who refuse to try to better themselves through hard work and education. I’m tired of footing the bill for lazy people and am amazed at others in my position who don’t feel the same way. I’m all for helping those who truly need it, but when I look around and see masses of people abusing the system it just becomes hard to stomach.

I don’t get these last minute campaign stops. I can’t imagine that they have no bearing what so ever, unless they are delivering the phony ballots. What’s more disturbing are those ballot machines in Ohio that are coming up Obama when a Romney ticket is put through. Sign and time date your ballots this time people, in big letters with the ballot order number, the fix may be on.

Don~ Am sure it’s just a momentary glitch Don, afterall the electronic voting machines for Ohio has just been revealed that the company doing the electronic counting of ballots has direct ties to Rommney’s son Tagg, and several of his larger financial backers…

So I’m sure they’ll have that fixed when comes to count ballots…yes, the fix may be in but I really don’t think if want to play conspiracy theory you are on right side of fence.

Welcome to Zimbabwe…Hopefully, with impartial poll observers and Anonymous warnings to Rove and the other Republicants not to overthrow this govt. against public wishes, all worries about them stealing the vote will turn out to be a nonstory…but with the other side’s track record of switching votes from Dem ticket to Republican ticket in bigger precincts, up to 10%, for many years, and the prediction that this will be a close election, where THAT could be the margin of victory…let’s just say I’ll be happy when good finally triumphs over, um, er, ev…Romney anyway…

magnumpi…..I suppose that sounds good to the Liberals….BUT, sorry to burst ur bubble here……look back and do a bit of research….the economy started to tank in March of 1999…..stock market started losing substantial amounts…….the housing market started losing steam ( because of the bad mortgage loans )….AND, THE DOT COM bubble had just burst….it really started to start slowing the economy in 1999 and election year 2000, and into 2001. C’mon now, put ur thinkin’ cap on……remember?? NO, I did not think so…..SO….look it up….as you are not gonna believe me!

If I remember right, President Clinton said the CBO projected a $5.6 Trillion surplus when he left office. From all reports from the CBO, the Bush Tax cuts(EGTRRA) effect over the last ten years(2001 to 2011) has been around $1.186 Trillion. Throw in a few stimulus attempts in that same period(JGTRRA – $328B, WFTRA – $121B, Tax act of 2010 – $354B, plus a few other items), where did the balance go? Maybe it wasn’t there in the first place.
But I digress to find really what happened, Discretionary spending climbed $2.9Trillion, TARP $189Billion, Interest climbed $1.375Trillion are just a few of the many “new” expenses. Might add, a lot of them appeared in the 2009 to 2011 period.
So blame could be placed on both the Administrations , and the Congresses plus maybe some on a projected surplus number that probably never existed in the first place.
Alphabet definitions – EGTRRA Econ Growth and Tax Relief Recon. Act of 2001, JGTRRA – Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Act of 2003, WFTRA – Working Familes Tax Relief of 2004, ARRA – American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, TARP -Troubled Asset Relief Program.

I love how quickly the Dems in Duluth want to talk about anything but Obumma. Do we really need three different articles on Slick Willy’s trip? Why don’t we talk about the revised jobless numbers that came out for Sep that are twice as high as the fictitious ones that brought the unemployment to 7.8%. Any Dem want to explain Obumma’s bumbling in Benghazi, how he refuses to come clean on the details, and how the deaths of four Americans were described as “Not optimal” by the bumbler in chief? Who really cares about what Clinton has to say about Obumma? If any of you lefties actually knew your “heroes” you’d know Clinton can’t stand Obumma.

I’ll explain it, but you won’t understand. Jon Stewart’s question used the word “optimal”. Thats where the word came from. The President was answering a question, and used a common technique among English speaking people by using part of the question to respond directly to that part of the question. It’s a sign of a good listener. It is a communication technique that is actually taught to people all over the country. It’s in many books on improving communication skills. Shall I recommend one for you? He did not choose the word “optimal” out of the blue, it was handed to him. If he had, you might have a legitimate complaint that he chose one word poorly (awww, BAD President! tsk tsk). But he did not choose the word. You should be chastising Jon Stewart for leading him into it.
Benghazi is a non-issue, with a bunch of Obama haters trying desperately to turn it into one. There is nothing that needs to “come clean” except dirty minds.
The job numbers were better than expected, and show continued improvement.
You’re welcome

Wow, all this love for a president 12 years gone can only mean one thing.
You know you have 4 more years to suffer, which is only fair after the 8 we suffered of your boy George. Actually I think we’d need another 8 after the next 4, to make up for that Texas Chainsaw Massacre nightmare.
So suck it up and get ready to be good losers Tuesday. Show us that bipartisan spirit you’re always complaining there isn’t enough of.
