Gay marriage debate not likely to go away, even if ammendment passes
October 28, 2012 at 7:00 pm in West Central Tribune
ST. PAUL Gay marriage remains divisive in states that allow it, with arguments that sound a lot like what Minnesotans are hearing as they consider a proposed constitutional amendment on the subject.

a constitution AFFORDS rights, laws take rights away … so what right should we take away next and put into the constitution … it should be one that will take a right away from ALL of us … selecting a group to take rights away from is just wrong. let’s see I propose we take away the right to ….

Mr. Carl, can you please give me a source on the vending machines … I have heard the comment before but no one has offered proof. You do realize that 1st graders do not have a menstrual cycle and therefore do NOT need contraception. I can give you that information, I learned it in health class in middle school. I am also glad you brought up the religious freedoms regarding the Affordable Healthcare Act. Here is my problem …
Most people are up in arms (sorry this is going to be long, get a cup of coffee of something) about Catholic Schools and Catholic business owners having to provide contraception coverage. They feel freedom of religion would suggest that they DO NOT have to provide something that is against their religion. I can understand this … HOWEVER …. here is my problem …
Scientology is considered a religion in this country (like it or not) … they do not believe in mental health … so if my boss is a member of Scientology he would NOT have to provide any coverage for anti-depressants, drugs for schizophrenia, bi-polar disease, postpartum depression. etc. That would be their right, the same as the Catholics.
You might say get a different job … heck we live in the midwest, I own my own home, I just can’t up and leave. We don’t have the businesses out here.
What if I was employed for 10 years at a company and it was sold and all of a sudden I had a boss who says his religious beliefs do not include organ transplants … now my insurance will cover the transplant, but NOT the anti-rejection drugs …
At what point when we are being interviewed for a job do we have to ask our potential employer what his religious affiliations are to decide what type of health care we will get. This is just not about the Catholic faith, there are hundred, perhaps thousands of religions in this country … each boss, each company can take away health care … it is a very slippery slope.
I hope this made sense, and thank you for reading a long post!

You make a good point, Jessie. But I think the same can be said for Obamacare. Somewhere, when all is said and done (and the politicians have read the whole plan), people with certain illnesses will be waiting for or denied care because of regulation. At least in a Catholic Hospital situation, the patient can go elsewhere and be provided with birth control. Nothing is ever going to be perfect for each individual.

lora … I have regular health care and I have been denied care … denied prescription coverage! the slippery slope of health care regarding religion is not something I want to see happen … every American will be at the mercy of their employer … just how do we decide if his/her ‘faith’ is real or not … I can see people making it up so they don’t have to cover stuff! I would hate to have a teenager suffering from depression only to have my employer say tough we don’t cover that … or needing a blood transfusion and my employer saying ‘tough we don’t cover that’ … we could all be in a world of hurt!

You are already at the mercy of your employer with the insurance coverage you have, Jessie. My point was that a Catholic Hospital should be exempt from prescribing contraception because of their belief. One can go to another hospital or Planned Parenthood for birth control.

Lora I understand that … however, that is NOT what is being proposed … what is being proposed is according to your religious affiliation, as an employer, you can deny coverage of whatever according to your religious beliefs, that could be organ transplants, any type of medication, etc. that is a very scary thing to me!

yes it is health insurance …. no we don’t get a choice on a plan … yes on prescription drugs they can decide they won’t even pay for generics … I am never ‘denied care’ … all of those costs come out of my pocket … well the first $5,000.00 anyway now … after that insurance will kick in a % … I honestly don’t know what that % is … $5,000 is a lot of Dr. visits

Really Mr. Trig … you went there …. wow … for those of you who ‘dislike’ homosexuals so much … do you know one who is??? My guess is you do, you just don’t know it. Why, because they know how you feel … how much you ‘dislike’ them (I’m using gentle words here). Why would they confide in you. If I was homosexual I certainly wouldn’t want to be around you either. The blatant disdain and the feel that they are somehow ‘less human’ is really disgusting! Let’s next pick out short people to take rights away from … then let’s go for those who are too thin … after that tall people … and of course, let’s not forget about those chubby folks … I’m sure anyone out there can feel ‘disdain’ for any section of the population … race, sexual orientation, etc. At the end of the day what stumps me the most is that you will call yourself a ‘Christian’ … I was taught that Jesus was a loving individual, who would rather help the needy and poor than to spend time with the wealthy. Maybe your Jesus is different than mine. BTW the God I worship loves everyone … not just straight, white folks.

Pono man I accept that that is your belief … I would presume you would accept that my belief differs from yours … I don’t expect to shove my belief down your throat on any topic, as I would presume you wouldn’t want to shove your beliefs down my throat … that seems to be a fair compromise. I am no sooner going to change your opinion than you will change mine! With that said, I DO NOT want to change yours, it is who you are, how you were raised. Now mine … is NOT how I was raised, it is something I have ‘evolved’ into. I will fight just as hard for my beliefs as you will for yours … isn’t this just a great country!

Scott –
I know you probably just caught wind of this whole Kluwe activism thing in your bunker as you await the inevitable end of days, but I hate to break it to you, but Kluwe’s crusade started this year BEFORE the season started, not during, as you implied. His Deadspin letter was published September 7th, two days before their season opener against the Jaguars. Nice try, but do a little research before spouting off on things you have no idea about.

I have a question for everyone … it’s simple actually. Why did you get married??? I’m guessing most anyway would say we did it because we loved the other person. Not one of us would say I got married because the person was of the opposite sex, it most likely wouldn’t even cross our minds to say that. So we marry for love … I did anyway … interesting!

Yes it is statute Pono-Man … EXACTLY, it is already statute so why do we need to change a constitution to take rights away that they don’t even have??? See how easy this is … it is a rule of law, man’s law. It has nothing to do with beliefs. Why are we taking away something (yes I am repeating myself) that they don’t even have??

So Carl, before you were married did the church require you and your future wife to be tested to see if you could havbe children?

hmmmmmm no where in my Lutheran faith is it required that I get married … no one in Sunday School mentioned it … or Confirmation … you see we didn’t mention ‘those people’ … kind of like those of a different color … if you don’t mention them in small town american they don’t exist. I don’t think there is a single person out there demanding that the Catholic Church marry gay people … what they are asking is to be given the same rights … kind of like during the Civil War and the ‘Dred Scott’ decision … this CAN NOT be a Christian thing … as I’ve mentioned tons of times … what is it called if two Athiests marry … or unionize … or combine … or … I don’t know what is it called?? Last I heard they received a marriage certificate! They didn’t demand the Catholic Church marry them … but they are given the same rights … that commercial by the soldier who now serves MN is so right … a gay person can fight for this country and die for this country … yet he is not afforded the same rights as you and I … WOW!

hmmm no … getting married is not a special thing … if their loved one is in ICU in the hospital and it is only family allowed, they CAN NOT be there! they do not get to file taxes jointly … I’d give more examples but I need to head to work!

it’s all about the sex??? really??? so homosexuals don’t have sex??? someone mentioned a man and a woman and something regarding children … what if a heterosexual couple doesn’t want children, or can’t have children and thus remain childless … does that make them less married?? the love between siblings, parents and children, (well usually anyway) is a different type of love … you do know that right??? are you suggesting that a man and woman should just get married because they are of the opposite genders??? just cause?? hey you, yeah you over there your male … let’s get married! hmmm I would rather grow old alone then to have a marriage without love and commitment! are you saying you don’t have love and commitment in your marriage?

No religion or political group has the right to adopt amendments to deny the rights of Americans based on religious or political views. The seperation of church and state is important to remember because in America not everyone believes in religion or even follows or supports a political party. People don’t care for Obamacare well I don’t care for the fact some uninsured are sent home to die, and it is sad that the quality of ones healthcare depends on ones ability to pay! If Obamacare is unConstitutional as some continue to claim get over it, remember the Supreme court ruled it is not, and no matter who else tries to challenge it, this is going to be law. With over 40M without health insurance and the price of healthcare continuing to gouge Americans something had to be done. If you have healthcare insurance then fine keep it, no one is forcing you change it, or pay more unless your healthcare company raises your rates. Again the sky is falling and some people purposely makeup their own version or use scare tactics to make people believe Obamacare is going to hurt Americans!

A few days ago, I believe it was Nov. 1st’s paper, there was a letter from, Pastors for Marriage. It was signed,
“Bruce Schoeman A Willmar pastor on behalf of 23 pastors and church ministry leaders from Kandiyohi County”
I have the utmost respect for most clergy but to those 23, the word Coward comes to mind.
